Questione di RAW

Parlare di un progetto che mi impegna quotidianamente da alcuni mesi e soprattutto parlare di una persona, Carlo, che forse è quella che più mi ha capito da quando ho iniziato questo lavoro, è un po’ “impegnativo”. Da una parte ho visto, studiato, riflettuto su queste immagini che mi sembra di conoscerle a memoria e che ormai mi ripeterei, dall’altra ci sono così tanti spunti che è impossibile esaurire il discorso.

Talking about a project that I undertake every day for several months, and especially speaking of a person, Carlo, the person who maybe understand me since I started this job, it’s a bit ‘”challenging.” On the one hand I’ve seen, studied, reflected so much on these images that I feel like I know them by heart and I’d repeat the same things, on the other hand there are so many ideas that it is impossible to exhaust the subject.

La prima cosa che voglio sottolineare è che quello che fa Carlo è una vera ricerca. “Ricerca” è una parola bellissima secondo me e coloro che la praticano sono spesso più brillanti di quelli che “trovano”. Carlo è uno che ricerca un nuovo modo di usare la macchina fotografica, un nuovo approccio, una nuova visione della realtà e i risultati possono piacere o no ma di certo comunicano molto di più di chi fotografa la ragazza tenendola per mano oppure persone a caso cosparse di rossetto.

The first thing I want to highlight is that what Carlo makes is a real research. “Research” is a beautiful word to me, and those who practice it are often brighter than those who “find”. Carlo is looking for a new way to use the camera, a new approach, a new vision of reality and you can like the results or not, but certainly they communicate a lot more than who photographs the girl holding her hand or random people sprinkled with lipstick.

Non sono foto carine queste, non sono “facili”, come quelle dei gattini su Instagram, non c’è un sacco di rosso e di blu come nelle pubblicità: queste sono vere e pure fotografie. Sono stimoli visivi che arrivano a chi li sa cogliere e se li porterà a casa. E lo potrete fare dal 12 al 28 febbraio allo Spazio Raw a Milano (e in mezzo ci sarà la presentazione del libro, ma ne parlerò poi). Questo è il tipo di esposizione che io per prima vorrei vedere più spesso in Italia e se vi ho incuriosito almeno un po’, venite a visitarla.
E se non vi basta o non volete farlo per me, sappiate che Carlo è una delle persone più ironiche dell’universo.

They aren’t nice pictures, they aren’t “easy”, such as pictures of kittens on Instagram, there isn’t a lot of red and blue as in advertising: these are true and pure photos. They are visual incentives that come to those who can receive and take them home. And you can do it from the 12th to the 28th February at Spazio Raw in Milan (and in between there will be the presentation of the book, but I’ll talk about later). This is the kind of exposition that I would like to see more often in Italy and if you have at least a little intrigued, come and visit it.
And if you don’t just can get enough or you don’t want to do it for me, you know that Carlo is one of the most ironic person in the universe.
