An english view of Lovers
By Vicky Miller
Our story begins in a city called Milan. It is perhaps an unusual fairytale location but without Milan the Lovers wouldn’t even exist. Rewind to 2010 and we find ourselves drinking wine and killing time. Killing time because we couldn’t find anything to do, or at least, not quite the right thing… Words and ideas flew back and forth, fuelled by more and more and perhaps too much wine. More a stream of nonsense than a stream of consciousness! I believe the conclusion was that we would save the city. Kind of like superheroes. I think it’s about then we passed out.
Nevertheless, in the cold light of day, despite the heavy hangover, the idea still didn’t seem that absurd. And our inebriated chatter of the night before had already produced a name. LOVERS. Looking back, it’s pretty boring but for some reason we were utterly taken with it, and although we didn’t know it at the time it’s come to perfectly represent the way we go about things – with lots of enthusiasm, fun, laughter and of course plenty of love, love, love. So that’s how we roll, with the blind conviction that anything can be made amazing. That’s our mission.
So who are the faces behind the name?
Well, there were four of us and then there were three. Unfortunately you might say that Vivi was the voice of reason, so we sometimes struggle to keep our heads out of the clouds since she ran off to Berlin. But until she decides to come back she’s our foreign correspondent, which will be important when we take over the world. As for the rest of us, if I tell you that there’s a blonde, a brunette and a redhead it’s going to sound like a bad joke, right? What if I say there’s a Blackberry, an iPhone and a Nokia 3100? Maybe it is a bad joke! We are three very, very different people. Catch us at an event and you’ll more often than not find Lucia busy charming everyone who comes her way, Alessia snapping away with her Diana and Vicky building or drinking a beer. But it works, we fit together like a jigsaw. Or better yet, a combiner from Transformers. A well-oiled Lovers machine!
And that machine does all sorts of things, Swap0rama is a chance to get your hands on somebody else’s wardrobe, then there’s our bizarre bazaar (by the way, who stole the inflatable sea monster from the last Lovers go Bizarre?!) and in deepest winter when we’re snuggled up on sofas, stuffing ourselves with popcorn and watching Teen Wolf on the big screen I’m reminded that our motivation for doing all this in the first place is purely selfish. We just want to do stuff we like! It turns out that a lot of you like that stuff too – after all, we normally just laugh a lot, unintentionally drink a lot and all go home happy. As for future plans we have all just said goodbye to each other for the summer, ahead lie festivals, barbeques, weekends at the sea and especially three mega trips – Cuba, Madagascar and Sri Lanka. Be warned that we will return with approximately 3476 photos each!
