sacchi per il bucato da federe - laundry bags from pillowcases

è arrivato il tempo perfetto per asciugare il bucato steso (mamma mia, che caldo e che sole!), quindi ho deciso di postare finalmente questo progetto. tempo fa ho visto questo tutorial da in color order  per fare sacchi per il bucato da federe. mi sembrava ottima l'idea perché ho sempre il cesto del bucato strapieno e ogni volta dovevo separare i colori scuri da quelli chiari dagli asciugamani dai delicati. e ho deciso di fare diversi sacchi da federe per tenere il bucato già separato dentro il cesto degli orrori. in questo modo, con una sola occhiata posso capire che tipo di ciclo di lavatrice serve di più e posso trovare i capi di quella categoria subito tutti insieme.
perfect line drying weather has officially arrived (gads, how hot and how sunny it is!), so i decided to finally post this project. a while back i saw this tutorial by in color order to make drawstring laundry bags from pillowcases. it seemed like a great idea because my laundry hamper is always overflowing and every time i had to separate darks from lights from towels from delicates. so i decided to make four pillowcase bags to keep the laundry already separated inside the hamper of horrors. this way i can see right away what type of cycle i need to run most and i can just empty out the bag into the washing machine.
solo che poi non trovavo più il tutorial originale. e ho fatto a modo mio. (come sempre.) poi lei usa delle federe vintage molto carine. io ho usato 4 federe stravecchie (e non nel senso bello del vintage), non tanto carine e a volte anche strappate. ma sono una riciclona e sarebbero nascoste dentro il cesto del bucato, quindi per me va tutto bene!
only thing was that then i couldn't find the original tutorial. so i did it my own way. (as always.) also, she uses vintage pillowcases that are very cute. i, on the other hand, used 4 ridiculously old (and not in the cool old vintage way), not so cute and sometimes even torn pillowcases. but i'm upcycling addicted and they would be hidden away inside the laundry hamper anyway, so i didn't really care.
(notate gentilmente che questo non è assolutamente il modo migliore per fare sacchi con il cordoncino se hai tessuto normale da usare. normalmente faccio come si fa in questo altro tutorial, e infatti ho un altro progetto da postare fatto per bene, ma non lo pubblico ancora perché si tratta di un regalo non ancora consegnato!)
(please note that this is definitely not the best way to make a drawstring bag if you have normal fabric to use. i generally make them like in this other tutorial and i actually have another properly done project to post, but i'm not publishing it yet because i still need to give it away to the recipients!)

ho iniziato con le federe di cotone rimaste da questo set massacrato di lenzuola che ho usato per i tappettini riciclosi. solo che... le avevo già usate alla festa di onomastico di mia figlia per fare la corsa coi sacchi. quindi potete immaginare che si sono un po' distrutte. dunque, per prima ho dovuto riparare gli strappi. che vi sembra l'effetto frankenstein che hanno i sacchi nella prima foto in alto? ;)
i started with the cotton pillowcases left over from this massacred set of sheets that i used to make my upcycled bathroom rugs. just that... i'd already used them at my daughter's name saint party to do the sack race. so you might well imagine that they got a bit destroyed. therefore i first of all had to sew up all the rips. how do you like that frankenstein effect of the bags in the first picture at the top of this post? ;)
poi ho fatto il canale per il cordoncino. non ho idea perché l'ho fatto in questo modo orribile. forse perché a volte mi viene una grande pigrizia e non mi va di metterci un minuto in più per fare le cose per bene. o forse perché già sembravano i sacchi di frankenstein, quindi non me ne poteva fregare di meno. ed è anche per questo che non ho comprato filo di cotone del colore giusto. (è un brutto vizio mio, questo. l'ho fatto anche con il cuscino poggiatesta.)
then i made the drawstring casing. i don't really know why i did them in this awful way. perhaps because sometimes i get super lazy and i don't feel like spending the extra minute to do things the right way. or maybe because they already looked like frankenstein bags, so i didn't really care. and this must also be the reason why i didn't bother buying thread in the right color. (that's a nasty habit of mine. i did it with my cat neck pillow, too.)

per prima ho fatto un taglietto sui due lati aperti. ho piegato i bordi tagliati verso l'interno della federa e li ho cuciti. (piuttosto male. mi vergogno un po' di far vedere la foto qui sotto...)
first of all i made cuts at the top of the both sides. i folded the cut edges inwards and sewed them down. (and pretty badly, i'll add. i'm a little embarrassed to show the photo below...)

poi ho piegato il bordo di tutta la circonferenza in giù (sempre verso l'interno) e l'ho cucito, facendo un canalino per il cordoncino piuttosto brutto, ma perfettamente funzionale.
then i folded down the whole top edge (again inwards) and sewed it, making a pretty ugly, though perfectly functional, drawstring casing.

per il secondo set di federe (un misto di cotone e poliestere, molto più resistente, degli anni 70 credo) ho messo i due secondi di fatica in più per fare il canalino per bene. ho fatto il taglio ma ho piegato i bordi tagliati dentro se stessi per non lasciare parti tagliate a vista. non so come spiegare, vedete la foto sopra.
for the second set of pillowcases (a mix of cotton and polyester, much sturdier, i think from the 70s) i took the extra two seconds of sweat to make the casing a little better. i made the same sort of cut at first, but folded the edges inside each other, hiding the cut edges. i'm not sure how to explain it, so just look at the picture above.

ho cucito questi bordi per non farli uscire da dentro, e poi ho continuato come la prima volta, piegando in giù la parte superiore delle federe verso l'interno e cucendo per fare il canalino.
i sewed the folded in edges to keep them inside and then i continued like the first time around, folding down the top edge inwards and sewing the casing.

poi per inserire il cordoncino. ho sempre fatto nel modo tradizionale, di tagliare i due cordi più lunghi della circonferenza dell'apertura in modo di lasciare la corda da poter annodare e tenere in mano quando il sacco è aperto. e poi di infilare una spilla di balia nella corda o nel nastrino e di passarla dentro il canalino. una volta per corda, quindi due volte per un sacco fatto per bene (sono più facili da usare se hanno due cordoncini, non uno). poi mi sono resa conto che si può infilare una volta sola, quindi risparmiando un pochino di tempo. (urrà!)
then to insert the drawstring. i've always done it the traditional way, cutting two cords a bit longer than the circumference of the opening so as to leave enough for knotting and holding it when it's open. and then stick a safety pin in the cord or ribbon and slip it through the casing. once per cord, so two separate times for a well-made drawstring bag (they're easier to use if they have two strings, not just one). then i realized that you could thread the safety pin through just once, thereby saving a tiny bit of time. (yah!) 

praticamente ho usato un unico pezzo di corda lungo la somma delle due corde che si userebbero normalmente. cioè, 4 volte la larghezza della federa più un po' in più per i nodi. l'ho infilato dentro il cerchietto della spilla di balia (o in queste foto ho fatto un nodo) e l'ho tirata in modo che le due parti erano di lunghezza uguale. (è molto più semplice di come lo sto spiegando, scusatemi!)
basically, i used one piece of cording as long as the sum of the two you'd normally use. so, 4 times the width of the pillowcases, plus that extra bit for the knots. i slipped the cording through that little loop at the bottom of the safety pin (though in these pictures i just tied a knot) and i slipped it through so the two parts were the same length. (it's much easier than i'm explaining it, sorry!)

quindi passa la spilla per i due canali e si taglia la corda dove è piegata (o annodata) alla spilla. qui si vede che ho tolto il nodo dalla spilla e poi l'ho tagliata. ma se la passi nel cerchietto, si deve tagliare ancora attaccata alla spilla.
then you slip the safety pin through the casing and you cut the cording where it's bent (or knotted) on the pin. here you can see that i slipped the knot off of the pin before cutting, but if you just slip it in the loop, you have to cut it still attached to the pin.

poi devi fare i nodi. non vorrai annodare una estremità con un'altra dell'altro pezzo, quindi con un dito tira una corda dall'altra parte e vedrai due estremità che vengono tirate. (si vede dalle mie scaldamani fatte da calzini che ho fatto questo progetto diversi mesi fa! non le uso certamente in questo caldo!)
then you need to knot. you certainly don't want to knot the end of one piece with the end of the other, so lightly pull one of the cords on the other side with your finger and you'll see the two ends get pulled in. (you can tell from my armwarmers made from socks that i made these quite a few months ago! i'm certainly not wearing them in this heat!)

annoda quelle due estremità e poi le altre due. poi tira una corda in modo che il nodo si trova dall'altro lato.
knot those two ends and then the other two. then pull one of the cords through so that the knot goes around to the other side.

ed ecco fatto il tuo sacco ricicloso per il bucato! ora mettiti a lavare qualcosa! è esattamente quello che sto per fare io!
and there's your upcycled laundry bag! now go throw in a load of laundry! i know that's what i'm about to do!
