Come ogni anno arriva il tempo del Carnevale di Venezia, la magia eterna che si ripete per stupirci e divertirci. La Festa delle Marie, come ogni anno, da ormai più di 11 anni, aprirà ufficialmente il periodo ‘clou’, il sabato precedente alla settimana ‘grassa’.

Questa antica rievocazione storica vede come protagoniste 12 tra le più belle ragazze di Venezia, selezionate una settimana prima dell’evento.
Questa festa nasce per ricordare un importante e antico evento della città che risale a prima dell’anno mille. Qui un mio articolo inerente la storia dell’evento e notizie sul make up realizzato ad hoc. Leggi il post.
Per partecipare occorre avere dai 18 ai 26 anni e abitare nella provincia di Venezia. Io stessa ho partecipato come damigella nel 2005 e come Maria nel 2006. Da quell’anno sono diventata la truccatrice ufficiale, vista la mia professione e il mio amore spassionato per questa festa, è stato un passaggio naturale voler contribuire ogni anno alla riuscita di questa bellissima manifestazione , riportata alla luce dal noto regista Bruno Tosi, già presidente della Fondazione Maria Callas.
Mi viene spesso chiesto da molte ragazze, in qualità di ex-Maria e truccatrice ufficiale, qualche consiglio su come presentarsi alla selezione, per avere delle chance in più. Alla selezione si accede inviando il coupon che viene pubblicato dal quotidiano ‘Il Gazzettino di Venezia’ allegando due foto, una intera e un primo piano. Le ragazze, in genere circa un centinaio, vengono invitate a partecipare alla giornata di selezione presso il Palazzo Cà Vendramin Calergi, sede del Casinò di Venezia, sponsor dell’evento. Quel giorno vengono valutate da una giuria che cambia di anno in anno e che vede al suo interno giornalisti, stilisti, artisti, personaggi importanti di Venezia e d’Italia nel mondo della moda, dell’arte e dell’informazione. Viene chiesto di sfilare davanti a loro per poter verificare il portamento , visto che poi andranno indossati costumi del ’300 . Viene valutata anche la bellezza del volto, che deve ricordare la purezza delle vergini rapite, e la capigliatura, che andrà acconciata alla moda dell’epoca.
Consiglio di vestirsi e truccarsi nella maniera in cui si valorizza al meglio la bellezza personale ed i propri punti forti. Un abbigliamento elegante e femminile è sempre preferibile perchè rende più facile capire se il portamento è adatto a sfilare con gli abiti storici. Il maquillage dovrà essere curato e adatto al proprio viso, non troppo scuro e assolutamente non troppo carico, rischiando cosi’ di diventare volgare per questo tipo di situazione.
Quando si sfila davanti alla giuria l’errore più comune è di camminare troppo velocemente, invece un passo sicuro con un ritmo abbastanza lento è sempre preferibile. Considero il sorriso essenziale in quasi tutta la durata della presentazione, perchè le Marie saranno sempre portate a farlo visto che il pubblico le saluterà di continuo e i fotografi professionisti e non le immortaleranno per tutte le giornate del carnevale. Inoltre la simpatia e la spontaneità sono sempre ben gradite dalla giuria. E’ comunque un concorso di bellezza, quindi cercate di prepararvi in maniera da valorizzare al massimo i propri punti forti.
Ecco alcuni esempi pratici: se avete dei bei capelli acconciateli per bene e lasciateli sciolti (non arrivate con una coda fatta alla buona in autobus!) ; se avete gli occhi chiari truccatevi con una leggera linea di matita nera sfumata e molto mascara per evidenziarli, se avete delle gambe lunghe preferite un abito che le faccia notare (…e non una gonna lunga e larga); se avete un decolletè generoso non nascondetelo in un maglione a collo alto e sciarpona. Sembrano piccoli, semplici e forse banali suggerimenti, ma non è cosi’: ogni anno purtroppo osservo scelte decisamente poco adeguate da questo punto di vista, durante la giornata delle selezioni, forse perchè non si dà la giusta importanza a questi fattori, che invece in un concorso di bellezza fanno la differenza, o semplicemente perchè è il primo concorso a cui si partecipa e si tratta di inesperienza ( che spesso si paga).
Guardate negli occhi tutti i giurati e cercate di divertirvi, perchè anche questa è un’esperienza che, comunque vada, ricorderete per sempre. Se non veniste selezionate non perdetevi d’animo, io stessa sono stata scelta al terzo tentativo, imparando a mie spese l’importanza dei dettagli menzionati precedentemente nella presentazione, e alla fine sono stata ricompensata del mio impegno. Se venite scelte come damigelle d’onore o del corteo consideratevi comunque fortunate, avendo vissuto in prima persona anche questa situazione, posso dirvi che è stato un piacere per me poter indossare abiti storici, sfilare in piazza san Marco e partecipare ad altri eventi importanti. Da damigelle si vive tutto con una spensieratezza maggiore, forse perchè non c’è una vincitrice finale, e in ogni caso è una bellissima opportunità di vivere il carnevale da protagoniste.

As every year comes the time of the Carnival of Venice, the eternal magic that happens to amaze and amuse. And like every year, since more than 11 years, the Festival will officially open by ‘La Festa delle Marie ‘main event’, the Saturday before ‘mardi gras’.
This ancient reenactment starring 12 of the most beautiful girls in Venice, selected a week before the event.

To participate you must be aged 18 to 26 years old and live in the province of Venice. I have participated as ‘damigella’ in 2005 and as Maria in 2006. Since that year I became the official makeup artist, view of my profession and my love for this impartial party, was a natural wish to contribute annually to the success of this wonderful event, brought to light by renowned director Bruno Tosi, already Foundation President Maria Callas.
Many girls often asked me, as a former makeup artist, some advice on how to present themself at the selection, in order to have better chance. The selection is accessed by sending the coupon that is published by the newspaper ‘Il Gazzettino di Venezia’attaching two photos, one full body and one beauty. The girls, usually around a
hundred, are invited to attend the selection day at the Palazzo Ca ‘Vendramin Calergi, home to theVenice Casino, the event sponsor. That day is marked by a jury that changes from year to year and sees inside journalists, designers, artists and important people of Venice in the world of fashion, art and information. You are asked to pull out in front of them to verify the behavior, because we will be wearing costumes of the ’300. An assessment is also the beauty of the face, which must remember the purity of virgins kidnapped, and the hair, coiffed in the fashion of that will.
Board of clothes and makeup in the way you make the most of personal beauty and its strength. ’Wearing elegant and feminine clothing is always preferable because it makes it easier to understand if the behavior is appropriate to remove the clothes of history. The makeup should be nice and fits your face, not too dark and definitely not too heavy and thus risk’ of become common for this type of situation.
When paraded before the jury the most common mistake is to walk too fast, but sure-
footed with a fairly slow pace is always preferable. I see the smile is essential in almost the entire duration of the presentation, because Marie will always be brought to do so as the greet the public and professional photographers all the time and not immortality for all the days of the carnival. The spontaneity is always well appreciated by the jury. It ‘still a beauty contest, so try to prepare so as to maximize its strengths.
Here are some examples: if you have beautiful hair, adorn it well and let them loose (do not come with a tail made done on the bus!), If you have light eyes make up them with a light black line and very fuzzy black mascara to emphasize them, if you have long legs prefer a dress that make notice them (… and not a long wide skirt), if you have a
generous décolletage not hide it in a turtleneck and scarf. Seem small, simple, and perhaps trivial suggestions, but it is not ‘: every year, unfortunately, look decidedly not appropriate choices from this point of view, during the day of the selections, perhaps because they do not give due importance to these factors, in that instead a beauty contest make the difference, or simply because it is the first contest in which you participate and it’s lack of experience .
Look at all the jurors in the eye and try to have fun, because even this is an experience
that, whatever happens, always remember. If you came not selected do not lose heart, I myself have been selected at the third attempt, learning the hard way the importance of the details mentioned above in the presentation, and eventually I was rewarded for my efforts. If you get chosen as the bridesmaids or the parade, however, consider yourself lucky, having experienced first hand this situation also, I can tell you it was a pleasure for me to wear historic costumes, march in Piazza San Marco and participate in other events.Since bridesmaids are all living with a more carefree, perhaps because there is a final winner, and in any event is a wonderful opportunity to experience the carnival as protagonists.
