I paesi che hanno le maggiori probabilità di aggiudicarsi i mondiali che si terranno dall'11 giugno all'11 luglio in Sudafrica sono il Brasile e la Spagna, afferma Roger Kaufmann, dottore in matematica al Politecnico federale di Zurigo (ETH). Vengono in seguito il Portogallo, l'Olanda, la Nigeria e il Camerun. L'Honduras - inserito nel gruppo H insieme a Svizzera, Spagna e Cile - è un «serio outsider», aggiunge Kaufmann che ha anche calcolato le possibilità di vittoria dei rossocrociati nella partita che li opporrà alla Spagna mercoledì 16 giugno al nuovissimo stadio Moses Mabhida di Durban: le chance di Alex Frei e compagni di aggiudicarsi l'incontro sono del 14,2%, la probabilità di un pareggio è del 25,5%. Per elaborare la metodologia ha impiegato più di 20 anni. Il sistema viene messo ora alla prova con le scommesse sportive, ma Kaufmann ha ammesso di non essere ancora riuscito ad arricchirsi.
