The Hobbitiana, il primo catalogo d'asta interamente dedicato a Tolkien del 1980

Quella che vi presento è una "pubblicazione" non scritta da Tolkien anche se, come avrete modo di leggere, gli può essere "ttribuita". Si tratta del primo catalogo di un'asta interamente dedicata a Tolkien e gestita da Melissa e Mark Hime. Qui sono elencati, illustrati e descritti una settantina di libri, lettere e scritti di Tolkien venduti agli inizi degli anni ottanta. Un volumetto che possiamo definire la pietra miliare delle aste tolkieniane. Una vera chicca che v'invito a scoprire e magari cercare... vedrete che ne varrà davvero la pena.

Precious StonesAll who wander are not lost
Frase parafrasata da “Not all those who wander are lost” (tr. It. Né gli erranti son perduti) che si legge nella lettera lasciata da Gandalf a Frodo nel Signore degli Anelli.I versi recitano:

A sinistra compare la Poesia dell'Anello con una particolarità...

Qui un particolare di una pagina presente in un libro in vendita. Si tratta della Poesia dell'Anello presente nella bozza di stampa del volume "The Fellowship of the Ring" - in vendita assieme alle bozze degli altri due volumi datati 1953 e 1954 al prezzo complessivo di $ 11.000 - utilizzata da Tolkien per le correzioni e datate 1953. Un anno prima l'uscita ufficiale. Nel testo si vede la correzione "darkness" al posto di "shadow".

In questa pagina un foto di un'iscrizione di J.R.R. Tolkien presente nell'edizione di The Hobbit del 1937, lotto 14 venduto a $ 12.500.La trascrizione recita:In the west there are many wonders and creatures unknown to men. [There is] a beautiful land, a dwelling of elves; [There] precious stones shine secretly in mountain caves.

Tra i libri venduti una bozza di stampa di Tolkien di The Adventures of Tom Bombadil del 1962, lotto 40 venduto a $ 400. In vendita, lotto 47 a $ 3.000, una pagina con un frammento manoscritto firmato da Tolkien del l'inizio del Lamento di Galadriel dal Signore degli Anelli in lettere tengwar, a seguire la trascrizione infine la traduzione in inglese.Si legge:
