The TURK’S GROTTO is a spectacular split in the mountain, in the form of an arch. The grotto was used as hiding place for Saracen pirates. These pirates went out at night to ravage the coast. Gaeta was tormented by Saracens for more than 60 years, from 846 to 915, when it finally defeated them in the battle of the River Gariglia.

La GROTTA DEL TURCO è una spettacolare spaccatura nella montagna a forma di arco. Serviva da nascondiglio ai pirati saraceni, che di notte uscivano a depredare il litorale. Gaeta fu tormentata dalle scorrerie dei Saraceni per oltre 60 anni, dall’846 al 915, quando riuscì a sconfiggerli nella battaglia del Garigliano.
