Tzar!

Tzar (царь) in Russian means king. The ethimology of this word is from Latin name Caesar, who eventually became synonymous of emperor. No doubt, this title is appropriate to what is probably the queen of the Inazuma café racers, designed by Sylvain Berneron for himself three years ago, when it first appeared on Inazuma Café. Since I believe that such a nice bike deserves a wider space on this blog with proper photos, I finally decided to post a new article on the Tzar, with the details of the build, directly provided by Sylvain and the nice pictures by Benoit Guerry (via the Southsiders). 
Tzar (царь) in russo significa re. L'etimologia della parola è dal nome latino Caesar, che poi è diventato sinonimo di imperatore. Senza dubbio, tale titolo è appropriato per quella che è probabilmente la regina delle Inazuma café racer, progettata da Sylvain Berneron per se tre anni fa, quando è apparsa sull’Inazuma Café per la prima volta. Siccome penso che una così bella moto meriti uno spazio più ampio su questo blog, con le giuste foto, ho finalmente deciso di postare un nuovo articolo sulla Tzar, con i dettagli della costruzione, resi direttamente da Sylvain e le belle foto di Benoit Guerry (da Southsiders)



“Being a motorcycle freak, how can it get better than building your own custom bike? But before getting my hands dirty, I had to figure out what i exactly wanted: a good steel frame for the stiffness, but it also had to run under the tank and not be perimetral to get a more classic look. An oil-cooled engine because it is simple and reliable. A big bore inline 4 cylinders to get decent torque and power. Twin shocks for its beauty. And all of it in a "modern" base to be ridden everyday. After a quick research, only two bikes were fitting the bill, The Kawi ZRX 1200 and the Suz 1200 Inazuma. I went for the Suz simply because the tank looked better to me. I bought the donor a few weeks later and started to tear it apart, at that point I was very sceptical, the stock bike was miles away from what I had in mind... This bike is a light custom, the goal was to get the maximal impact with a tight budget so it was all about updating the chassis in some areas and reworking the all tail to get a proper cafe-racer fly line. I have been working on all my bikes maintaining them for years, but I didn't have the skills to do this, luckly my best friend (Hugo Lambert) is a race mechanic and took care of the proper custom face. We started to swap the front end for a 2006 GSXR 1000 fork and brakes, combined with LSL clip-ons, an Acewell speedo and a pair Braking Pr19 master cylinders. The subframe has been shorten by 30 cms and totally rework to place the battery and the CPU under the seat. The engine received K&N filters, bigger exhaust pipes with a Zard silencer, a modifies ignition finger and a pair of Yoshimura camshafts that brought the torque up to 13,5 Mkg and the power to 160 Hp. Finally a lot of parts have been black powder coated and we finished it all with a Barry Sheene's 1975 RG500 replica paint job”. Sylvain Berneron  

"Per uno schizzato di moto, cosa c’è di meglio che costruirsi la propria custom? Ma prima di sporcarmi le mani, ho dovuto capire quello che esattamente volevo: un telaio in acciaio per la rigidità , ma non perimetrale per avere un look classico. Un motore raffreddato ad olio perché è semplice e affidabile. Un grande 4 cilindri in linea di grossa cilindrata per avere una coppia decente e adeguata potenza. Ammortizzatori doppi perché son belli. E tutto questo su una base " moderna" da guidare tutti i giorni. Dopo una rapida ricerca, solo due moto potevano andar bene: il Kawa ZRX 1200 e la Suzuki Inazuma 1200. Sono andato per la Suzy semplicemente perché il serbatoio mi piaceva di più. Ho comprato la base poche settimane più tardi e ho iniziato a smontarla, a quel punto mi sono preoccupato, la moto di serie era lontana un miglio da quello che avevo in mente... Questa moto è una special leggera, l' obiettivo era quello di ottenere il massimo impatto con un budget limitato e quindi si giocava tutto sulle modifiche di alcune zone del telaio e sulla ricostruzione della coda per ottenere la giusta linea filante per una cafe racer. Ho sempre mantenuto le mie moto personalmente, ma non averi avuto le competenze per fare questo progetto. Per fortuna il mio migliore amico ( Hugo Lambert ) è un meccanico da corsa e si è preso cura adeguamento della customizzazione. Abbiamo iniziato a sostituire l’avantreno completo con quello di GSXR 1000 del 2006, combinato con semimanubri LSL, tachimetro Acewell e una coppia di pompe freno Braking PR19. Il telaio sottosella è stato accorciato di 30 cm e totalmente ricostruito per sostenere batteria e la centralina sotto la sella. Il motore ha ricevuto i filtri K&N, collettori maggiorati con terminale Zard , una nuova mappatura e una coppia di alberi a camme Yoshimura che hanno portato la coppia fino a 13,5 Kgm e la potenza a 160 Cv. Infine, molte parti sono state verniciate a polvere e finito tutto con la livrea Barry Sheene della RG500 del 1975" Sylvain Berneron.
