Questo non è solo un proverbio, è una perla di saggezza.
Un buon tacer non fu mai scritto. Credetemi, ci sono differenti possibilità di applicazione.
Quali? Mi domanderete voi. Ve ne citerei almeno un paio .  C'è chi dice che fu Dante ad usarlo, chi invece  Iacopo Baoder nel XVII secolo.
Partiamo dalla prima comunissima situazione:  quante cose interessanti o intelligenti sentite dire in una giornata? Pensateci.
La risposta potrebbe anche essere : nessuna e la cosa non dovrebbe stupirvi.
Parole, parole parole e gran parte inutili. Più che parole rumori.
La vicina che fa pettegolezzo, il conoscente che fa dello sciocco umorismo, la persona che parla del nulla pur di muovere aria con il rumore. Alla fine, a furia di sentire sciocchezze o dirne, non siete stanchi? Quando se non in questa occasione il proverbio è adatto?
 Silenzio, magico amato silenzio.
Non ne abbiate paura, meglio il silenzio che parole dette solo per far rumore.
Seconda situazione: siete a conoscenza di una notizia scomoda . Il fatto di dirla potrebbe comportare una situazione scioccante o difficoltosa per voi o per qualcuno...la scelta è ardua . Se ne vale la pena e se è a fin di bene, perché no?  Affrontate la situazione, ma se la notizia creerebbe solo scompiglio e nessun vantaggio o miglioramento, state zitti, tenetela per voi e avvaletevi della facoltà...di non rispondere. D'altronde il tacer può essere favorevole, spesso!

It is said that  Dante used this saying, in one different version  instead Iacopo Baoder in the Seventeenth century used it. Let's  start  from the first situation with a question, how many interesting  or intelligent things do you listen in one day?
Think about it.  A negative answer might be odd. Words more and more, many are worthless. They are not words but noises. Your neighbor uses words to do gossip, the acquaintance  to do some stupid humor, many persons make only noise talking about  nonsense topics. 
Are you not tired due to  so many stupidities? This is a perfect occasion to use this  saying. Silence, sought and loved silence. Do not be afraid, silence is better than worthless words. 
Second situation. You are aware of a embarrassed news. If you are going to tell it , there will be a difficult or shocking situation for someone ... the choice is difficult. If it's worth it and if  could be a good purpose or solution, don't hesitate and tell it. On the other hand if the news could  upset someone uselessly, you should decide if it could be better to shut up! "Take the fifth" ... . silence could be the best solution sometimes!
