Un passo indietro… the knitting and stitching show a Londra

Facciamo un passo indietro… prima di partire per Abilmente con i Magliuomini (presto il racconto del boss sul blog), sono stata a visitare la super fiera dell’handmade londinese Knitting and Stitching Show! L’Associazione Uncinettare Italiane a Londra (io e Ilaria) si è data appuntamento in una fresca mattina di Ottobre all’entrata di Alexandra Palace, la splendida location della fiera, sulla cime di una collinetta con una bella vista su Londra.

A step back in time… before leaving London to go to Abilmente in Italy with Magliuomini, I visited Knitting and Stitching Show! In a chill morning of October the Italian in London Crocheters Guild, for now me and Ilaria (LOL) met at Alexandra Palace, lovely location of the show. From the hill there’s a fantastic view of London.

Appena arrivate abbiamo incontrato per caso Liz e sua figlia, un’amica del Brockley Knitting Group, il gruppo di maglia che frequento a Londra, che bella sorpresa! Abbiamo preso un caffè, parlato della fiera e dei piani per la giornata.

Finita la pausa siamo entrate, pronte per andare a curiosare tra banchi di bottoni, gomitoli e stoffine, ma passata la soglia abbiamo trovato ad accoglierci gli italianissimi DAMSS con le loro ‘Cinque Terre’. Con la mano tesa in avanti sono andata dritta verso di loro e ho detto: “Ciao, sono Caterina!” Da lì, chiacchiere, presentazioni e ancora chiacchiere.

Just arrived we casually met Liz and her daughter, a friend of Brockley Knitting Group, nice surprise! We had a coffee together, talking about the show and our plans for the day. Finished the break, we entered, ready to go around and see buttons, balls of yarn and fabrics, but at the entrance we found the Italian fiber artists DAMSS with their ‘Cinque Terre’. I went direct towards them and said: “Hello, I’m Caterina!” And then… chatter, presentations and chatter again. 

Nel frattempo Ilaria aveva fissato per prendere un caffè con la editor di Simply Crochet, la rivista inglese per cui scrive e inventa tenerissimi amigurumi… potevo rifiutare? No! Ero gasatissima :-D

In the meantime Ilaria was making an appointment for a coffee with the editor of Simply Crochet, the UK magazine for which she writes and invents lovely amigurumi… could I refuse? No! I was so excited :-D

Io e Ilaria che prendiamo il sole alle Cinque Terre by DAMSS

Dopo tante chiacchiere e due caffè siamo arrivate all’ora di pranzo, usciamo e sempre per caso incontriamo Valerie, un’altra amica del gruppo di maglia di Brockley, che tutta trafelata entrava in fiera. Inizio davvero a sentirmi a casa! Pranzo e dolcetto preparato da Ilaria (è anche un’ottima cuoca, che donna!), altro caffè e via! Questa volta ci siamo tuffate a capo fitto nella missione esplorativa.

After a lot of chatter and two coffees it was time to have lunch, we went out and casually (again!) we met Valerie, another friend of Brockley Knitting Group, she was going in the show. Now I’m starting to feel at home! We had lunch and a muffin baked by Ilaria (she’s a great cook as weel, super!), another coffee and go!  This time we started our visit to the show, determined to explore.

Un giro nell’angolo dedicato alle mostre, tra le mie preferite Sophie Digard, designer francesce che realizza stole, sciarpe, berretti e collane, caratterizzate da motivi in rilievo lavorati con preziosi filati finissimi.

A stroll around the galleries, one of my favourite is Sophie Digard, French designer who makes scarfs, berets and necklaces that beg to be touched, made with fine and preciuos yarns.

Imperdibile Kate Jenkins, artista britannica di talento e dalla spiccata immaginazione che al Knitting and Stitching Show presenta un banco del pesce con aragoste, cozze, granchi e tanto altro, creati a maglia e a uncinetto.

Unmissable Kate Jenkins, UK artist very, presents at Knitting and Stitching Show ‘Kate’s Plaice the Stitchmongers’. On her counter there were prawns, cockles and mussels, all of them knitted and crocheted.

Siamo arrivati alla fine della giornata e del nostro giro al Knitting and Stitching Show di Londra, ecco qua quello che ho acquistato. Da notare il kit per realizzare delle impossibili (per le mie capacità da magliaia) muffole in stile lettone di Hobby Wool.
