Unfinished sculpture as expression of a philosophical meaning: San Matteo by Michelangelo ( Florence)

Chiunque conosce il grande Michelangelo,  nome storico nell'arte Italiana! Siamo nel XVI secolo quando questo grande artista creava opere che ci sarebbero rimaste nei secoli.
Se vi trovate in Firenze, tra le migliaia di cose da vedere,m vi suggerisco di fare un salto alla Galleria dell'Accademia.
Quì fra le meravigliose opere che ammirerete, vi troverete di fronte ad una statua molto particolare: San Matteo.
Lo scultore è ovviamente Michelangelo, la statua è datata 1505 ed è realizzata in marmo.
La prima impressione che si ha ammirando quest'opera è che sia incompiuta, ma la domanda è : fino a che punto è realmente incompiuta questa statua? Da questa statua si possono vedere tutte le caratteristiche dell'arte di Michelangelo.

Dal 1505 in poi tutte le statue di Michelangelo furono incompiute.
Perchè? 
Perchè Michelangelo vuole dare un significato filosofico: la statua non finita lascia intravvedere cosa l'artista avrebbe voluto fare . L'idea compiuta non è raggiungibile perchè eterna e  per raggiungere  l'eternità bisogna abbandonare la materia e avvicinarcisi con l' 'immaginazione. 
Immaginazione che tenderà solo verso l'eternità senza riuscire mai di fatto a raggiungerla. L'eterno è solo intuibile, l'idea è qualche cosa di puro e nonostante l'uomo possa avere le potenzialità per raggiungere ciò, in realtà si ferma ad un livello inferiore che ne caratterizza tutta la sua imperfezione. Così profondo, così filosofico ma insieme triste. Ecco il significato del San Matteo e delle opere dal 1505 in poi prodotte dalla grande mano di Michelangelo.
Michelangelo - famous Italian artist- is known by everybody. He lived in XV- XVI centuries, and he made such great art works that they would remain for centuries . If you are in Florence - among the thousands of things to visit -  I suggest you  Galleria dell'Accademia . Here there are some  beautiful art works to admire , anyway I would like to suggest you  a very special statue, St. Matthew .
The sculptor is obviously Michelangelo, the statue was create in  1505. It  is  marble . You  will think that the statue is unfinished but the real question will be: " is this really left undone?" You can see all the Michelangelo's art features in this statue. All Michelangelo's statues were unfinished after 1505 . Why ? Because Michelangelo wanted to give a philosophical  meaning, the unfinished statue gives a glimpse of what the artist would have created.  Anyway the final idea is not reachable because eternal . If we want to  approach eternity we have to use our immagination, leaving matter. Imagination will only drift toward eternity, without ever actually reach it. The eternal is merely deducible , the idea is something pure. Even if  the human being may have the potential to reach it , he actually stops at a lower level confirming his failing . So deep , so philosophical but so gloomy. This is the meaning of St. Matthew statue and of all  art works  produced by the great hand of Michelangelo  after 1505.
