What is a “guetzli”? // Cos’e’ un “guetzli”?

This morning after the gym I decided to stop by one of my favourite cafes in the neighbourhood Kornsilo and had a cappuccino. I although felt like something sweet, probably because of the morning exercise, so had a small pastry with it. A Guetzli to be precise, which costed only 1 Swiss Franc for a change if you bought a coffee with it (which added up to 6CHF, not cheap, but this is Switzerland) or 2 Swiss Francs without a coffee.

It was a small, but not too small pastry made of puff pastry sweetened with honey I believe that resembled a Prussien or what we call in Italian (ventaglietto or sfoglia) or in Spanish (palmerita). I don’t have a photo of mine as I decided to write a blog post while I was already half through it!

Anyway, I was curious and decided to find out what exactly it was. Basically it’s Swiss German for any small pastry or also a biscuit. Here’s the German explanation by Wikipedia.

Stamattina dopo la palestra ho deciso di prendere un caffe’ ad uno dei mie caffe’ preferiti in zona: il Kornsilo. Oltre al cappuccino avevo voglia di qualcosa di dolce, forse a causa dell’esercizio mattutino, e cosi’ ho chiesto un “Guetzli”.

Vi chiederete (o forse no! ;)) : cos’e’ un “Guetzli”?

Cio’ che mi hanno dato era una sorta di ventaglietto, ma reso dolce dal miele e seppur piccolo comunque piu’ grande di un ventaglietto (che in spagnolo chiamano “palmerita”).

Vi costera’ 1 franco svizzero, se lo ordinerete anche un caffe’, oppure 2 franchi. Piuttosto conveniente pensando a Zurigo, il totale comunque non regalato, ma siamo in Svizzera!

Non ho una foto fatta da me perche’ho scelto di scriverne un post dopo che me ne ero mangiata meta’!

Ho cercato quindi su Wikipedia che dice che un’espressione in svizzero tedesco per indicare un piccolo dolce o un biscotto.
