What Italians do the week end before Christmas: Italian life

Weekend before Christmas. All around there is the complete mess. The choices about what to do are mainly two: the Italians are doing the final shopping or they have lunch with the relatives. This second option is what happened to me today. We will meet in a restaurant where we have gorged. I am living in Milan so the choices are going to some restaurants in the city or you can opt for a restaurant just outside  - in the countryside - and enjoy the company in some little village next to a big fireplace, accompanied by good food: definitely the second option is much less stressful than going to do shopping. If you decide on these two days to go shopping, you will find yourself with thousands of other people trying to understand what so “useful” gift you have to buy for your aunt Giuseppa and your grandfather Carlo. If you opt for the second choice, you will be sitting with your aunt Giuseppa and grandfather Carlo eating, drinking and relaxing to the point that it will be difficult to leave from the table with your full belly. Do you know what time I got up from the table today? 16.30 . Now please do not talk to me about food… at least until tomorrow!
Week end prima di natale in giro c’è il completo caos e le scelte principalmente sono due: gli italiani stanno facendo gli ultimi regali oppure sono a pranzo con  qualche parente: questa seconda opzione è quello che è capitato  a me oggi. Ci si riunisce in qualche ristorante dove ci si abbuffa fino all’impossibile. Vivendo io in Milano le scelte sono andare in qualche ristorante in città oppure optare per qualche ristorante appena fuori nella campagne e godersi la compagnia in qualche paese a fianco di un grosso caminetto e accompagnato da buona cucina: decisamente questa seconda opzione è molto meno stressante del fare shopping. Se decidete in questi due giorni di andare a fare shopping vi troverete con altre migliaia di persone a tentare di capire quale in utilissimo oggetto dovete comprare per la zia Giuseppa e il nonno Carlo. Se optate per la seconda sarete seduto con la zia Giuseppa e il nonno Carlo a mangiare e bere e vi rilasserete al punto tale che sarà difficile alzarsi da tavola con la pancia piena. Sapete a che ore mi sono alzata oggi io? Ore 16.30 e adesso vi prego non mi parlate di cibo, almeno fino a domani!
