Who's who - Stefano Pilati

Stefano Pilati (1965), italiano di nascita e parigino d'adozione, diplomato geometra, inizia a lavorare negli anni '80 come stagista presso la casa di moda italiana di Nino Cerruti. Emergono sin da subito il suo estro e il suo talento nel campo della moda, motivi che lo spingono ad abbracciare la scena della moda milanese e a conoscere tutto ciò che c'è da sapere riguardo al lavoro e alla produzione delle linee prêt-à-porter.
Stefano Pilati (1965), born in Italy, after the qualify as a land surveyor, in the Eighties starts to work at Nino Cerruti's fashion hous as an intern. Immediately emerge his talent and his estrus in fashion; that's why he decides to embrace Milano's fashion scene and to know everything about ready-to-wear's production.

Viene lanciato come stilista dalla società di un produttore di velluti, che gli affida la realizzazione di tutta la collezione prêt-à-porter.
Giorgio Armani lo assume nel 1993 come assistente nel reparto men's ready-to-wear e successivamente, nel 1995, Prada lo inserisce nell'ambito di ricerca e sviluppo dell'azienda.
Nel 1998 diventa assistente stilista per Miu Miu, curando le collezioni uomo e donna ready-to-wear.

He is launched as a designer by a velvet manufacturer, who gives him the realization of the company's entire ready-to-wear's collection.
In 1993 Giorgio Armani hires him as an assistant in its men's ready-to-wear department and then, in 1995, Prada asks him to run its fabric research and development.
In 1998 he becomes assistent designer at Miu Miu's, working in men's and women's ready-to-wear collections.

Nel 2000 approda alla maison francese Yves Saint Laurent. Nel 2002, dopo il ritiro dalle scene del celebre stilista, lavora a fianco di Tom Ford (ritiratosi a sua volta nel 2004). Da allora è direttore creativo a pieno titolo della maison, di cui cura tutte le collezioni prêt-à-porter.
A Pilati va il merito di aver riportato in passerella i punti di forza della maison YSL (raffinatezza, stile sofisticato e linee pulite), dopo che con l'avvento di Ford, la casa di moda francese aveva abbandonato la squisita tradizione a vantaggio di uno stile più provocante.
In 2000 he is hired by Yves Saint Laurent. In 2002, after the famous designer's retirement, Pilati works next to Tom Ford (who gives up in 2004). Since then he is the only head designer for YSL and runs its ready-to-wear collections.
To Pilati goes the credit for having brought back on the catwalk YSL's hallmarks (refinement, the sophisticated style and clean lines), after that with the Tom Ford's advent, the french fashion house had abandoned the exquisite tradition in favor of a more provocative style.
