XV950 Dangan

Last year Yamaha UK gave the MCN Mag an XV950 on loan to see what a relative novice could do to create his own custom build. The result is the Dangan.


Last year Yamaha UK gave the UK motorcycle magazine MCN an XV950 on loan. The plan for journalist Steve Hunt was to see what a relative novice could do with some bolt on parts and accessories to create his own custom build. The result is the ‘Dangan’ (Japanese for ‘bullet’). With no cutting or welding, everything has been customised maintaining the option to return the bike to stock. In June 2014, steve rode the XV950 to the Wheels & waves event in Biarritz and realised the need of a proper fairing to improve the comfort of the bike at high speed. This decision led him to Lamb Engineering, the well known custom shop in Salisbury - UK, who built the fairing and also made the CNC-machined billet engine and clutch plates and custom top yoke. A Greg Hageman bolt on rear subframe raises the rear. A customised set of 18inch rims were also choosen from the Yamaha accessory catalogue. Other details are the Magura HC-3 master brake cylinder, the milled end caps and fuel filler cap, the custom seat and, finally, the classic Yamaha color scheme paint job.
L'anno scorso, Yamaha UK ha prestato alla rivista inglese MCN una XV950. Il progetto era quello di verificare cosa un preparatore relativamente alle prime armi, come il giornalista Steve Hunt, avrebbe potuto realizzare su base XV utilizzando accessori disponibili sul mercato. Il risultato è la 'Dangan' (giapponese per 'proiettile'). Quindi nessun taglio o saldatura, tutto è stato personalizzato mantenendo la possibilità di riportare la moto alla configurazione di serie. Nel mese di giugno 2014, Steve ha portato la XV950 all'evento Wheels & waves a Biarritz e ha realizzato la necessità di una adeguata carenatura per migliorare il comfort della moto ad alta velocità. Questa decisione lo ha portato alla Lamb Engineering, il noto atelier di customizzazioni di Salisbury - in Inghilterra - che ha realizzato la carenatura e ha anche costruito i coperchi carter e frizione lavorati al CNC, e la piastra forcella. Il telaietto posteriore prodotto dallo specialista Greg Hageman solleva la parte posteriore. Il set di cerchi da 18 polliciè stato invece scelto dal catalogo accessori Yamaha. Altri particolari sono la pompa freno Magura HC-3, il tappo del serbatoio e gli altri particolari realizzati artginalmente alla fresa, la sella custom e, infine, la verniciatura con i clssici colori Yamaha.
