Partiamo da Dallas nelle prime ore del pomeriggio per arrivare dopo due ore a Charleston.
For my husband's birthday this year, we spent five days in Charleston, South Carolina.
We departed from Dallas in the early afternoon and arrived in Charleston two hours later.

The warm welcome immediately puts us in a good mood and the lobby of the Belmond Charleston Place is a triumph!A beautiful hotel, very convenient, located in the heart of the historic district of the city. Just take a stroll and you are among historic homes, museums, restaurants and then there is King Street, with antiques, art galleries, libraries and anything you wish for!

Cena deliziosa ed eccovi la ricetta, avuta cortesemente dallo chef Michelle Weaver, del loro famoso e FAVOLOSO Crab Cake:
Ingredienti per 4 persone
· 450 gr. di polpa di granchio
· 1 bianco d'uovo
· ½ scorza di limone grattugiata
· ½ succo di limone
· 1 cucchiaio di erba cipollina
· 1 cucchiaio di timo
· ½ tazza di maionese
· 2 cucchiai di pangrattato fatto al momento, usate pane bianco senza crosta (con frullatore)
· Sale e pepe bianco macinato fresco
Unire la maionese, sale, pepe, albume d'uovo, la scorza di limone, il succo, erba cipollina e timo. Mescolare la polpa di granchio. Fare un polpetta spessa, spolverare con pangrattato e rosolare nel burro o olio.
Salsa:
· 6 gamberi sgusciati e tagliati a julienne
· 10 pomodori perini maturi
· 10 pomodori perini gialli
· 2 succo di lime
· 2 scalogni tritati bene
· 2 cucchiai di aneto fresco
· ½ tazza di olio di oliva vergine supplementare
Scaldate lo scalogno nell'olio, quindi aggiungete i gamberetti e lasciate cuocere. Aggiungete gli altri ingredienti. Servite caldo sulle polpette di granchio.
Delicious dinner and here is the recipe, given kindly by chef Michelle Weaver, for their famous and FABULOUS Crab Cake:
Ingredients for 4 servings
· 1 lb crab meat
· 1 egg white
· ½ a lemon zest
· ½ a lemon juiced
· 1 tbsp chives
· 1 tbsp thyme
· ½ cup mayonnaise
· 2 tbsp bread crumbs made from fresh, crustless white bread in a food processor
· Salt and fresh ground white pepper
Mix together the mayo, salt, pepper, egg white, zest, juice, chives and thyme. Fold in the crab meat. Make a patty, dust with bread crumbs and sear in butter or oil.
Sauce:
· 6 peeled shrimp, de-veined and cut into julienne strips
· 10 red pear tomatoes
· 10 yellow pear tomatoes
· 2 limes juiced
· 2 shallots chopped fine
· 2 tbsp fresh dill
· ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
Heat shallots in oil, then add shrimp and cook. Add remaining ingredients and heat thoroughly. Serve warm over crab cakes.
La mattina del secondo giorno visita al French Quarter, una sezione del centro di Charleston - il quartiere francese è all'interno dell'originale città "murata" di Charleston - ed una delle zone che piu' mi ha entusiasmata!
Le case, tra cui edifici storici di pregio, sono preservate benissimo e hanno giardini esterni e interni pieni di fascino.

The morning of the second day was a visit to the French Quarter, a section of downtown Charleston - the French Quarter is within the original "walled" city of Charleston - and one of the areas that most impressed me!
The houses, including historic buildings, are well preserved and have outdoor and interiors gardens that are full of charm.

Il terzo giorno abbiamo affittato una macchina per visitare le Plantations.
Le piantagioni si trovano 24 km nord ovest di Charleston e nel passato erano prevalentemente piantagioni di riso.
Drayton Hall considerata uno dei migliori esempi di architettura georgiana-palladiana negli Stati Uniti. Costruita nel 1747–48 circa, e' rimasta in condizioni quasi originali come l'ha ricevuta il National Trust dalla famiglia Drayton nel 1974 in quanto il motto del trust e' conservazione invece di restauro. Molto interessante...mi aspettavo di vedere arrivare qualcuno in costume d'epoca!
On the third day we rented a car to visit the Plantations.
The plantations are located 24 km northwest of Charleston and in the past were mainly rice plantations.
Drayton Hall is considered one of the finest examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in the United States. Built around 1747-48, it has remained in almost original condition just as the National Trust received it from the Drayton family in 1974...the motto of the Trust is conservation rather than restoration. Very interesting ... I expected to see someone dressed in period costume!

Un'altra meravigliosa dimora: Middleton Place, costruita nel 1755 e dal giardino gigantesco. Middleton Place è un monumento storico nazionale e sede dei piu' vecchi giardini d'America. La bellezza delle secolari camelie, che ho trovato in fiore, sono da togliere il fiato. I giardini sono stati previsti in modo che ci sia qualcosa che fiorisce tutto l'anno.

Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark and home of the oldest gardens in America. The beauty of century-old camellias, which I found in bloom, are breathtaking. The gardens have been designed so there is something in bloom year round.
Oltre alla dimora, oggi convertita in museo, un mulino, le stalle, un ristorante - molto buono - , e "The Inn at Middleton Place" dove puoi passare il tempo in tutto relax circondati da molteplici meraviglie!
In addition to the house, which is now a museum, there is a mill, stables, a restaurant - very good - and "The Inn at Middleton Place" where you can spend time to relax surrounded by multiple wonders!

The fourth day was a visit to the rest of the city filled with restaurants, with the inevitable crab restaurant!

La mattina dell'ultimo giorno (sic!) non poteva mancare una visita al museo e tra i tanti abbiamo scelto il Charleston Museum, primo museo americano, fondato nel 1773 e aperto al pubblico nel 1824. Museo di storia naturale, storia locale, arti decorative e una collezione d'argento molto interessante.
The morning of the last day (ouch!) we could not miss a visit to the museum. Among the many, we chose the Charleston Museum, first American museum, founded in 1773 and opened to the public in 1824.
Museum of natural history, local history, decorative arts and a very attractive collection of silvers.
Torneremo sicuramente un'altra volta in primavera!
