1993. Mia sorella aveva appena 5 anni, quando Alex Del Piero – classe 1974 – vestiva per la prima volta la maglia della Juve. Ieri sera, Alex Del Piero ha vestito per l’ultima volta quella stessa maglia che ama, e che lo ha reso l’idolo di molti italiani.
Anche mia sorella è tra quegli italiani. E d’altronde, sono davvero pochi i detrattori di Alessandro Del Piero. 91 presenze in nazionale, 27 goal – il quarto marcatore di sempre - 704 partite e 290 gol con la Juve, 513 presenze e 208 gol nei campionati italiani, 19 anni con la Juve, 11 dei quali da capitano.
Mia sorella è cresciuta juventina. Ma più che altro, è cresciuta con Del Piero.
Un giocatore che ha vinto tutto quello che si poteva vincere nel calcio, ma che si è sempre mostrato modesto, umile, schivo. Uno che non ha avuto la vergogna di scendere in serie B con la sua squadra, che ha affrontato degli infortuni terribili e le voci di quelli che lo davano come finito. Uno che non si è mai lamentato della panchina, e che quando entrava in campo a porte inviolate riusciva a sbloccare il risultato. Uno che lo chiamano Pinturicchio perché quando calcia una punizione dipinge un’opera d’arte.
Alex Del Piero ieri sera ha giocato la sua ultima partita con la maglia della Juve. Pare che a lui sarebbe piaciuto restare a Torino, ma la società non ha voluto rinnovargli il contratto. Forse chiedeva troppi soldi. O forse è troppo vecchio: sapete, Del Piero ha quasi 38 anni. Ma lui non ha fatto polemiche. Ha detto solo che gli dispiace.
Anche a me dispiace. Alex Del Piero è uno di quei personaggi del calcio che non vorrei che fossero definiti ‘personaggi’. Il mondo del calcio avrebbe bisogno di mille Del Piero, per ritornare “umano”, genuino e sano.
Caro Alex, se mai leggerai questo blog, sappi che a mia sorella mancherai moltissimo.
E mancherai anche a un sacco di altra gente.

My sister has grown up as a Juventus fan. But more than anything, she grew up watching Del Piero playing. He’s a player who won everything he could win in football, but always showing himself modest, humble, shy. He’s a player who has had no shame to go down to Serie B with his team, who faced terrible injuries and the voices of those who took him as an end-up player. He’s a player who has never complained about the bench, the same one who when entered the field could break the deadlock. He’s the one who they used to call ‘Pinturicchio’ because when he kicks a free kick is just like watch a work of art.
Last night, Alex Del Piero played his very last game with the jersey of Juventus. It seems that he would like to remain in Turin, but the club declined to renew his contract. Maybe he asks for too much money. Or maybe he’s too old: you know, Del Piero is turning 38. Nevertheless he did not do controversy or complained. He just said he’s sorry.
So am I, I’m sorry too. Alex Del Piero is one of those characters of football that I wish they were not called ‘characters’. The whole world of football would need a thousand of Del Piero in order to return to a “human”, genuine and healthy status.
Dear Alex, if you ever read this blog, you should know that my sister will miss you very much. Other people will miss you a lot as well.
