Art and fashion: fashion is art!

Oggi è venerdì e come tutti i venerdì è la volta della mia amatissima rubrica sull'arte e la moda, ossia "ART AND FASHION: FASHION IS ART".
Oggi ho deciso di parlarvi di una costumista statunitense che adoro particolarmente, sto parlando di EDITH HEAD.
Edith Head nata a San Bernardino, il 24 ottobre del 1897 è stata una costumista statunitense.
La sua professione di costumista, le ha fatto vincere la bellezza di otto premi Oscar ( nel 1951 doppio Oscar, sia per i costumi a colori che in bianco e nero), più di ogni altra donna in tutta la storia del cinema.
Nel 1919 si laureò e iniziò una carriera da insegnante a La Jolla in California. Nel 1923, pur non avendo alcuna esperienza, rispose a un annuncio della Paramount Pictures, che cercava lavoratori per il dipartimento di costumi, iniziò da questo momento a disegnare e realizzare costumi per attori di film muti, la sua carriera alla Paramount durò ben 44 anni; nel 1967 si trasferì alla Universal.
La sua carriera comprende la bellezza di 400 film e va da Ali del 1927, fino a Il Mistero del cadavere scomparso del 1982.
A partire dagli anni'30 era diventata una delle costumiste più affermate, ma furono gli anni'50 a determinare il suo dominio in questo campo, tutto ciò grazie anche alla pubblicazione di alcuni suoi libri sulla moda e agli abiti realizzati da lei per le dive del periodo, ad esempio gli abiti per Gloria Swanson in Viale del tramonto (1950), per Audrey Hepburn in Vacanze Romane (1953), per Grace Kelly in La finestra sul cortile (1954), compreso il celebre Abito di Parigi che viene mostrato nelle prime sequenze del film, e che è in seguito stato considerato un'icona della moda.
Il mistero del cadavere scomparso, parodia del cinema noir, degli anni quaranta e cinquanta, interpretato da Steve Martin e Rachel Ward, è l'ultimo film della lunga carriera di Edith Head, e la pellicola è stata dedicata alla costumista che è morta il 24 ottobre del 1981.
Edith Head, una rande artista, una costumista fenomenale che è rimasta nella storia non solo del cinema ma anche della moda.

Today I decided to tell you about a costume that I love particularly the US, I'm talking about EDITH HEAD.
Edith Head was born in San Bernardino, 24 October 1897 was an American costume designer.
