Avvistamenti d’oltreoceano #4

 Tutti i venerdì pubblicherò un nuovo post parlando di un libro straniero che mi ha colpito e che non è ancora stato pubblicato in Italia.

Perdonate di nuovo il mio enorme ritardo ( ho paura di non esser fatta per le rubriche…). Oggi vi voglio parlare di The Weepers: The other life di Susanne Winnacker.

Trama: 3 anni, 1 mese, 1 settimana, 6 giorni da quando avevo visto la luce del giorno. Un quinto della mia vita. Sherry e la sua famiglia hanno vissuto sigillati in un bunker in giardino da quando le cose sono andate storte sopra. Suo nonno é stato in un freezer per gli ultimi tre mesi, i suoi genitori sono l’uno contro l’altra e hanno finito il cibo due minuti fa. Sherry e suo padre lasciano la sicurezza del bunker e trovano una devastata e vuota Los Angeles, fatta a pezzi dalle bombe e invasa dai “Weepers” – rabbiosi umani infettati dal virus della rabbia. Durante la ricerca del cibo in un supermercato, Il padre di Sherry scompare e Sherry viene salvata di Joshua, un ragazzo-cacciatore. Lui la porta al Safe-haven, un vigneto in rovina sulle colline fuori da Los Angele, dove un piccolo numero di altri sopravvissuti stanno raccogliendo i pezzi delle loro “altre vite”. Mentre si innamora per la prima volta, Sherry deve salvare suo padre, rimanere in vita e tenere salvo Joshua quando il suo desiderio di vendetta minaccia tutti.

3 years, 1 month, 1 week and 6 days since I’d seen daylight. One-fifth of my life. Sherry and her family have lived sealed in a bunker in the garden since things went wrong up above. Her grandfather has been in the freezer for the last three months, her parents are at each other’s throats and two minutes ago they ran out of food. Sherry and her father leave the safety of the bunker and find a devastated and empty LA, smashed to pieces by bombs and haunted by ‘Weepers’ – rabid humans infected with a weaponized rabies virus. While searching for food in a supermarket, Sherry’s father disappears and Sherry is saved by Joshua, a boy-hunter. He takes her to Safe-haven, a tumble-down vineyard in the hills outside LA, where a handful of other survivors are picking up the pieces of their ‘other lives’. As she falls in love for the first time, Sherry must save her father, stay alive and keep Joshua safe when his desire for vengeance threatens them all.
