BEPPE SEVERGNINI è un columnist e un editorialista del ‘Corriere della Sera’, dove è felicemente accasato dal 1995. Libro più recente: “Italiani di domani. Otto porte sul futuro” (2012). Dal 1998 conduce il forum ‘Italians’ (italians.corriere.it). E’ uno dei giornalisti italiani più seguiti su Twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/beppesevergnini), dove si diverte un mondo (e prova a essere utile).
I suoi libri, tutti pubblicati da Rizzoli, sono bestseller (= molti li hanno comprati, qualcuno li ha letti e magari graditi). Bsev ha scritto quattro ritratti nazionali: ‘Inglesi’ (1990), ‘Un italiano in America’ (1995), ‘La testa degli italiani’ (2005) e ‘La pancia degli italiani. Berlusconi spiegato ai posteri’ (2010). Due libri sulla lingua: ‘L’inglese. Lezioni semiserie’ (1992) e ‘L’italiano. Lezioni semiserie’ (2007). Tre libri di viaggio: ‘Italiani con valigia’ (1993, ediz. agg. 1997), ‘Manuale dell’imperfetto viaggiatore’ (2000), ‘Italians. Giro del mondo in 80 pizze’ (2008). E l’autobiografia ‘Italiani si diventa’ (1998) – il suo preferito e, ovviamente, quello ha venduto meno.
‘Un italiano in America’, col titolo ‘Ciao, America’ (2002) è diventato un National Bestseller negli USA. ‘La testa degli italiani’, col titolo ‘La Bella Figura’ (2006) è stato New York Times Bestseller, ed è tradotto in quindici lingue. Non accadeva a un libro italiano di saggistica da quarant’anni; oggi Bsev è l’autore italiano più venduto negli USA.
Ha scritto per ‘The Sunday Times’ (1992-1993), ‘The Economist’ (per cui è stato corrispondente dall’Italia 1996-2003), ‘The New York Times Syndicate’ (2007-2009), “The Financial Times” (2010-2012). Nel 2004, a Bruxelles, è stato votato ‘European Journalist of the Year’. Ha vinto anche altri premi, ma il più importante – assicura – è rappresentato dalla stima e dall’affetto dei lettori.
Appassionato di calcio, Beppe ha scritto per la ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ dal 2001 al 2011, ed è autore di una multipla dichiarazione d’amore alla squadra del cuore, raccontata dal disastro al trionfo: ‘Interismi’ (2002), ‘Altri interismi’ (2003), ‘Tripli Interismi’ (2007) e ‘Eurointerismi’ (2010, dopo il Triplete). I quattro volumi sono raccolti nel ‘Manuale del Perfetto Interista’ (edizione definitiva), col quale si è congedato dal racconto sportivo.
Beppe Severgnini ha scritto e condotto le trasmissioni televisive ‘Italians, cioè italiani’ (RaiTre 1997), ‘Luoghi Comuni. Un viaggio in Italia’ (RaiTre 2001-2002). Dal 2004 al 2011 ha collaborato a SKY Tg24 (‘Severgnini alle 10′, ‘America 2008′, ‘Zona Severgnini’). Nel 2011 e 2012, su La7, ha partecipato spesso a ‘Le invasioni barbariche’, ‘Otto e mezzo’ e ‘G’Day’, condotti dalle sue brillanti amiche Lilli, Daria e Geppi.  Dal 2007  lo potete ascoltare su Radio Monte Carlo (RMC).
Bsev è nato il 26 dicembre 1956 a Crema (Cremona), dove ha studiato fino alla maturità classica. Laureato in diritto internazionale a Pavia, dopo un periodo presso la Comunità Europea a Bruxelles è stato corrispondente a Londra per ‘il Giornale’ di Montanelli (1984-1988), inviato in Europa Orientale, Russia e Cina (1988-1992), distaccato presso ‘The Economist’ a Londra (1993), corrispondente a Washington D.C. per ‘la Voce’ (1994-1995).
Ha tenuto un corso al master di giornalismo ‘Walter Tobagi’ dell’Università degli Studi di Milano/Ifg (2010-2012), è stato Research Fellow/Writer in Residence al MIT/Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2009), ha insegnato a Middlebury College Vermont (2006), Milano-Bocconi (2003 e 2006), Parma (1998) e Pavia (2002), che lo ha scelto come «laureato dell’anno» nel 1998 e 2011.
Nel 2001 la Regina Elisabetta II gli ha conferito il titolo di Officer of the British Empire, O.B.E. e nel 2011 il Presidente Giorgio Napolitano lo ha nominato Commendatore della Repubblica italiana.
E’ presidente dell’Inter Club di Kabul (Afghanistan).
È sposato con Ortensia e ha un figlio, Antonio.

Severgnini’s books, published in Italy by Rizzoli, are bestsellers (= many have bought them, some have read them and the odd reader may have liked them). Beppe Severgnini has written four portraits of nations: ‘Inglesi’ (1990), ‘Un italiano in America’ (1995), ‘La testa degli italiani’ (2005) and ‘La pancia degli italiani. Berlusconi spiegato ai posteri’ (2010); two books on language: ‘L’inglese. Lezioni semiserie’ (1992) and ‘L’italiano. Lezioni semiserie’ (2007); three travel books: ‘Italiani con valigia’ (1993, revised 1997), ‘Manuale dell’imperfetto viaggiatore’ (2000), and ‘Italians. Giro del mondo in 80 pizze’ (2008). An autobiography, ‘Italiani si diventa’ (1998), is his favourite and – of course – the one that has sold least.

‘Un italiano in America’ became a National Bestseller in the US as ‘Ciao, America!’ (Doubleday, 2002). ‘La testa degli italiani’ has been translated into fifteen languages and was a New York Times Bestseller as ‘La Bella Figura’ (Doubleday, 2006). It was the first time in forty years for an Italian nonfiction book and since then Bsev has been the bestselling Italian author in the US (‘Mamma mia! Berlusconi’s Italy Explained to Posterity and Friends Abroad’, published by Rizzoli Int’l in 2011, failed to sell quite as well: the maverick tycoon-turned-politician is not as sexy as Italy or America)

Beppe has written for The Sunday Times (1992-1993); The Economist (from 1996 to 2003 he was the Italy correspondent); The New York Times Syndicate (2007-2009); and The Financial Times (2010-2012). In 2004, he was voted ‘European Journalist of the Year’ in Brussels. He has won a few more awards but the most important – he says – is the esteem of his readers.

A keen soccer fan, Beppe has written for the Gazzetta dello Sport from 2001 to 2011. He is also the author of a multiple declaration of love for Inter Milan, his favourite soccer team, from disaster to triumph: ‘Interismi’ (2002), ‘Altri interismi’ (2003), ‘Tripli Interismi!’ (2007) and finally ‘Eurointerismi’ (2010, after the Triplete, the Treble of Italian Championship, Coppa Italia and Champions League). All four have been published in a single volume as ‘Manuale del Perfetto Interista’, his farewell to the soccer commentary.

Beppe Severgnini wrote and presented the television programmes ‘Italians, cioè italiani’ (RaiTre, 1997) and ‘Luoghi Comuni. Un viaggio in Italia’ (RaiTre 2001 and 2002). From 2004 to 2011, he collaborated with SKY Tg24 as an interviewer, presenter and contributor (‘Severgnini alle 10’, ‘America 2008’ and ‘Zona Severgnini’). Since 2011, he has often appeared on Italian TV as guest of the talk shows ‘Le invasioni barbariche’ and ‘Otto e mezzo’ (La 7).

Beppe Severgnini was born on 26 December 1956 at Crema, in the province of Cremona, where he graduated from a classics-oriented secondary school. He obtained his degree in international law at Pavia. After a training period at the European Community in Brussels, he was London correspondent for Indro Montanelli’s il Giornale (1984-1988), subsequently becoming special correspondent in Eastern Europe, Russia and China (1988-1992). He was seconded to The Economist in London (1993) and then served as Washington correspondent for la Voce (1994-1995).

Beppe Severgnini taught at the Walter Tobagi graduate School of Journalism at the University of Milan (2009-2012). He has been a research fellow/writer in residence at MIT/Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2009), has taught at Middlebury College Vermont (2006), and at the universities of Milan-Bocconi (2003 and 2006), Parma (1998) and Pavia (2002), which elected him ‘Alumnus of the Year’ in 1998 and 2011.

In 2001, Beppe Severgnini was made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) by HM Queen Elizabeth II and in 2011 the President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, conferred on him the title of Commendatore.

Since 2008, Beppe has been Honorary President of the Inter Club Kabul (Afghanistan), the only presidency that he holds.

Beppe Severgnini is married to Ortensia and has a son, Antonio.
