Dopo avervi presentato la copertina (trovate qui l’articolo) e partecipato al Release Day Lounch con un bel giveaway (qui i dettagli) eccomi arrivata alla parte più difficile (ma anche la migliore ;-) ), quella della recensione. Abbiamo già letto e riletto in chiavi differenti la storia di Lewis Carrol, tante che verrebbe da pensare non ci fosse davvero altro da dire in merito. Ebbene, Heather Lyons ha dato vita ad un’Alice cresciuta e alle prese con un mondo che non ci si aspetta. La incontriamo, per esempio, mentre si trova in un Ospedale Psichiatrico…

Alice non è più la ragazzina sperduta e un po’ ingenua descritta da Lewis Carrol, ha 25 anni e sa che il Paese delle Meraviglie esiste anche se nessuno le crede. Proprio per questo sta cercando di lasciarsi alle spalle tutto quanto e ricominciare una nuova vita quando uno sconosciuto si presenta in visita all’Ospedale Psichiatrico dove risiede le chiede aiuto per salvare proprio Wonderland.

E’ così che Alice entra a far parte della Collectors Society, un gruppo di persone che ha il compito di difendere i mondi che vivono in famosi libri. Per cercare chi vuole distruggere il Paese delle Meraviglie, Alice si troverà a dover viaggiare attraverso diversi mondi e in uno di questi incontrerà Finn, un ragazzo intelligente, divertente, onesto, talvolta esasperante, sarcastico, gentile e terribilmente, dolorosamente sexy.

Non posso andare oltre con la trama perché ogni parola in più rischia lo spoiler. Quello che vi posso dire è che Alice è un personaggio fantastico, è coraggiosa e forte, sa come difendersi e ha una mentalità senz’altro aperta. Molto lavoro è stato fatto sulla creazione dei mondi ed in particolare quello di Wonderland dove Alice si muove, è contemporaneamente quello classico e qualcosa di nuovo. Specifico che non è necessario aver letto Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie di Lewis Carrol per poter leggere questo romanzo (anche se difficilmente credo che sfugga la storia a qualcuno), chi lo conosce già avrà solo qualche piacere in più ritrovando luoghi e personaggi in parte già visti e tanti nuovi creati dalla Lyons.
La scrittura è senza fronzoli, diretta e scorrevole. L’inizio potrebbe apparire un po’ lento ma in realtà è un vantaggio: saranno tanti gli elementi forniti dall’autrice ed è bene “digerirli” man mano che si procede, proprio per riuscire ad apprezzarli al meglio.

Un romanzo che è difficile classificare in un genere specifico, è in parte un mystery, ricco di avventura e fantasia, per gli amanti delle fiabe senza dimenticare uno spiccato taglio romance (new adult). In sintesi: un romanzo da leggere!
