(Bob e' tuo zio).Now, all British people will probably already know that this saying means "all will be well" or "everything is gonna be alright" . But do you know why?Actually nobody is really sure about the origin of this saying, but it seems it could come from a political episode in the British history, that made The Girlfriend smile quite a lot and you'll soon know why. This is what know as "nepotism" and it's something Italian people actually know it quite well.The link between this event and the saying "Bob's your uncle" is quite easy to make. "If Bob (Robert Salisbury) is your uncle, then you can be sure everything will be fine for you".Pare che intorno al 1880, un tizio di nome Robert Salisbury, che all'epoca era Primo Ministro Britannico, abbia investito il suo nipote prediletto con molte cariche politiche. If the expression "Bob's your uncle" literally translated into Italian doesn't make sense at all, maybe if translated it as "Silvio (Berlusconi) is your uncle (or your step-daddy!)" it will sound much more clear. Ora veniamo al motivo per cui La Girlfriend ha trovato tutto questo piuttosto divertente...Se l'espressione "Bob's your uncle" tradotta letteralmente in Italiano con Rob e' tuo zio, ci dice poco o nulla, forse, traducendola con "Silvio e' tuo zio (o meglio il tuo padre adottivo) suonera' piu' comprensibile.
