Boyfriend or mannish?

La comparsa delle giacche da baseball - le cosiddette "varsity", tipiche degli atleti dei college americani, che una volta davano alle fidanzate per "marcare il territorio" - sugli editoriali fina dalla scorsa primavera è , fortunatamente , scampata al prefisso "b" di "boyfriend" nella ridistribuzione nei negozi, anche se sono di chiara ispirazione maschile .
Ma è stato un caso isolato, in generale tutti i capi di lui che sono finiti nei nostri guardaroba sono stati inesorabilmente distinti in due gruppi: "boyfriend" quelli più casual e giovanili e "mannish tailoring" o sartoriali da uomo quelli più sofisticati.
Stella McCartney , che ha studiato la sartoria maschile presso Edward Sexton di Savile Row, e la sua ex collega Phoebe Philo sono le due stiliste di alto profilo che hanno contribuito maggiormente al successo di questa piccola rivoluzione.
Entrambe amano i capi over e lo stile sartoriale su capi a volte indossati a stati, sperimentando con successo look anche azzardati con una disinvoltura che Saint Laurent o Giorgio Armani ( i due re del tailoring di alta moda) non hanno mai tentato .
Il trend si è rapidamente diffuso dalla strada alle passerelle. Ormai esistono numerosissime collezioni dedicate allo stile boyfriend, da quelle di di fascia media che guardano ai grandi nomi della moda, come Zara con i cappotti maschili stile-Stella in delicate tinte pastello, a quelle più costose di Céline o YSL.

And maybe it's because the clothes' masculine counterpoints are far more grown-up but the ''boyfriend'' has been unceremoniously dumped in the other key area of for-women-but-inspired-by-men fashion: tailoring.
Stella McCartney, who trained under Savile Row's Edward Sexton, and her former colleague Phoebe Philoare the two high fashion designers most responsible for rebooting female tailoring.
Both favour baggy, sometimes comically oversized sartorial styles worn with an unexecutive loucheness that Saint Laurent or Giorgio Armani (the two kings of tailored high-fashion) never explored.
The trend has quickly trickled down to the high street. The new Marks & Spencer collection features plenty of mid-priced Céline-meets-YSL tuxedo riffs that reflect the catwalk collections, as well as Stella-esque manly overcoats softened in pastel.
