Carnival: the masks

Le maschere forse sono esistite da sempre.  Si sa infatti che le portavano già gli uomini delle caverne quando si dedicavano ai loro riti magici ed hanno continuato ad affascinare costantemente l'uomo fino ad oggi.
Ci sono due tipi di maschere: quelle facciali che nascondono il volto e quelle a elmo che nascondono completamente la testa.
Nel 1800 la maschera la si usava di frequente nei balli e naturlamente nei festeggiamenti di Carnevale, ed era accompagnata da costumi sontuosissimi ed estrememente ricercati.
Ma è ben cinquecento anni che fa gli attori della commedia dell’arte crearono quelle maschere- personaggio che divennero storiche: dal servo sciocco all’intrigante, dalla cameriera furbetta al fanfarone, è proprio da questi che nacquero le tradizionali maschere di Carnevale come Arlecchino e Pulcinella.
In teatro mantennero a lungo questa caratteristica, finche’ il declino della Commedia dell’ Arte allontano’ i personaggi pian piano dai palcoscenici per limitare la loro presenza nei teatri dei burattini ed alle sfilate di Carnevale.

Masks are probably always existed. It is known that already the cavemen wore masks when for their magical rites and they continued to fascinate people constantly until today.There are two types of masks : those the facial one that hide only the face and the helmet ones that completely hides the head.In 1800 masks were used frequently at balls, and naturally during the Carnival parties, often paired with very sumptuousand extremily sought  costumes .But it was five hundred years ago that the actors of the art comedy created those characters that beacame historic costumes: the foolish servant and the intriguing , the sly maid and the braggart, it is from these, that gave birth the traditional carnival masks as Harlequin and Pulcinella .In the theater actor kept playing these characters for a long time, until ' the decline of the Art Comedy, then these characters slowly from the stage, limit their presence in puppet theaters and the Carnival parades .
