Carnival: the origins

In origine , grazie alle maschere e ai costumi che venivano indossati per i festeggiamenti, ogni persona era uguale all’altra ed ognuno poteva tenere i comportamenti che volevarendendo, di fatto, la festività un’occasione per scappare dalla realtà ed anche dai propri problemi (ancora oggi infatti il travestimento è l’essenza del Carnevale).
All'incirca intorno al XVII sec. a Venezia nacque un vero e proprio commercio di costumi e maschere, oltre che scuole apposite per imparare la loro realizzazione.
Allo stesso tempo i festeggiamenti e gli spettacoli si diffusero presto praticamente in ogni città italiana e da lì in gran parte dell' Europa, e in questa occasione si poteva assistere ad attrazioni di ogni tipo: musicisti, danzatori, acrobati, giocolieri e molto altro ancora, ma era presso le case private, nei teatri o nei palazzi, avevano luogo feste più sfarzose, con i costumi più preziosi e sfarzosi.

Originally, thanks to the masks and costumes that were worn for the Carnival, each person became the same of the other and everyone could keep the behavior that liked, so this festival became an opportunity to escape from reality and also from the problems (in fact costumes still are the essence of the Carnival)
Roughly around the seventeenth century in Venice was born a real trade of costumes and masks, as well as special schools where learn how to make them
At the same time the festivities and performances soon spread in almost every Italian city and from there all over Europe.
On this occasion you could attend attractions of all kinds: musicians, dancers, acrobats, jugglers and much more, but it was at private homes, in the theater or in the palaces, the most sumptuous feasts were held, with the most precious and magnificent costumes
