La chiesa principale della città di Alba è la Cattedrale di San Lorenzo posta in pieno centro storico, accanto al Palazzo Comunale.
L'edificio attuale, realizzato in mattoni rossi secondo lo stile gotico-lombardo, risale alla fine del Quattrocento e prese il posto di una chiesa più antica del XI secolo utilizzata sia per scopi religiosi che politici.
La sua facciata principale si apre in Piazza del Risorgimento ed è suddivisa in tre sezioni verticali che corrispondono alle navate interne.
I tre portali d'accesso sono anticipati da un porticato con arcate gotiche a sesto acuto. Ognuna delle due sezioni laterali ha un'alta monofora, mentre centralmente, sopra la statua di San Lorenzo, c'è il rosone del 1870. Bassorilievi con i simboli dei quattro evangelisti abbelliscono la struttura.
The main church of the city of Alba is the Cathedral of St. Lorence placed in the center of the old town, next to the Town Hall.
The current building, built in red brick in the Gothic-Lombard style, dates from the late fifteenth century and took the place of an older church of the eleventh century used both for religious and political purposes.
Its main facade opens in Piazza del Risorgimento and is divided into three vertical sections that correspond to the inner aisles.
The three portals of access are anticipated by a porch with gothic pointed arches. Each of the two side sections has a high lancet, while centrally, above the statue of St. Lorence, there is the rose window dated 1870. Bas-reliefs with the symbols of the four evangelists grace the structure.
