Cicciluzz', Haircut, Birthday, Instagram

Il primo giugno, abbiamo fatto una nuova amicizia.
We made a new friend on June 1st.

L'abbiamo trovato per strada vicino a casa nostra. Sapendo che avrebbe fatto una brutta fine, l'abbiamo raccolto e portato a casa, chiedendo aiuto a mio suocero, che ha salvato più di un passero in passato. Qui mangia un po' di confettura, ma poi dopo l'abbiamo fatto mangiare un pastone apposto per uccelli.
We found him on the street near our home. Knowing it wouldn't have survived long there, we picked it up and brought it home, asking my father-in-law for help, seeing as he's saved more than one sparrow in the past. Here he's eating some jam, but then after we got some special baby bird feed for him.
 
Come abbiamo letto in questo forum e anche quest'altro, l'abbiamo messo in una scatola di cartone con uno straccio umido in una tazzina e la lampada sopra per riscaldarlo. Stava dai miei suoceri, che abitano sullo stesso pianerottolo di noi, perché abbiamo un gatto in casa, ma andavamo spesso a stare con lui.
We read in this forum as well as this one to put him in a box with a damp cloth inside an espresso cup and a light above to warm him up. He stayed at my in-laws', who live on the same floor of our apartment building, because we have a cat, but we went over frequently to be with him.
   
Ci siamo tanto, tanto affezionati a lui, che abbiamo battezzato "Cicciluzzo" (o, al Napoletano, Cicciluzz'). Mangiava tanto (e spesso!) e dopo le prime ore voleva stare sempre con noi, soprattutto sul mio dito o in mano. Era difficile fargli scendere di nuovo nella scatola.
We became quite attached to him and named him "Cicciluzzo" (or, in Neapolitan style, Cicciluzz'). He ate a lot (and often!) and after the first few hours wanted to be with us all the time, especially on my finger or in my hand. It was hard to get him back off and into his box.

Purtroppo, quando mia suocera si è alzata due giorni dopo che l'abbiamo portato a casa, l'ha trovato con le zampette in aria. Non lo so se aveva mangiato troppo o troppo poco, o se aveva troppo freddo. So solo che abbiamo fatto tutto quello che potevamo per salvarlo e che ne abbiamo sentito subito la sua mancanza. Tanto. E' passata una settimana da quando non c'è più, ma continuiamo a pensarci e parlarci quotidianamente.
Unfortunately, when my mother-in-law got up two mornings after we brought him home, she found him with his little feet in the air. I don't know if he ate too much or too little, or if he was too cold. I only know that we'd done all we could to save him and that we immediately felt his absence. A lot. A week has gone by since he left us, but we continue to think and talk about him every day.

In altre notizie, dopo diversi anni di capelli lunghi, ce li ho corti corti.
In other news, after a few years of having long hair, I now have it nice and short.

A Marzo ho fatto un taglio da sola, seguendo più o meno questa tecnica e togliendo questa bella manciata piena di capelli. Purtroppo, non ho neanche una foto dei miei capelli prima di crescere troppo e perdere quella forma. (Erano già troppo lunghi per le mie foto di Me-Made-May'13.)
In March I'd done my own haircut, more or less using this technique to chop off this big handful of hair. Unfortunately I don't have a single photo of when this haircut actually looked good, before it grew out of shape. (It was already too grown-out for my Me-Made-May'13 photos.)

Si vede nella mia foto per il 31 Maggio che ho avuto un'altro taglio di tanti capelli, ma non anadava bene dopo averli lavati (non ho certo la pazienza di stirarli come fa la parucchiera!). Quindi ho richiamato la parucchiera per tagliarli corti corti, ed ecco quello che abbiamo buttato. Solo che quel taglio andava ancora peggio e il giorno dopo sono andata da un'altra parte per il quarto taglio che finalmente va bene, ma sto ancora imparando come aggiustarli, quindi ancora niente foto!
You can see in my picture on May 31 that I got another big haircut, but it wasn't any good after washing it (I certainly don't have the patience to flat-iron it out!). So I called the hairstylist back to cut my hair super short, and the picture above is what came off that time. Except that cut was even worse than and I ended up going somewhere else the next day for a fourth haircut which finally was ok, though I'm still figuring out how to style it, so no pictures yet!

Sabato era il mio compleanno. Mia figlia mi ha fatto un biglietto meraviglioso...
Saturday was my birthday. My daughter made me a wonderful card...

Poi siamo andati in giornata con degli amici alle Grotte di Pertosa (provincia di Salerno), un posto davvero bello ed intrigante. C'è un network di tunnel di caverne piene di stalattiti e stalagmiti, formazioni strani e un fiumino con delle barchette all'inizio che la guida tira tramite una rete di cavi.
Then we spent the day with friends at the Grotte di Pertosa (Pertosa Caverns, province of Salerno, Italy), a truly intriguing place. There's a network of tunnels and caves full of stalactites and stalagmites, strange formations and a little river that you go down at the beginning in boats which the guide pulls along with cables stretched across.

Non si potevano fare le foto dentro, quindi ho solo queste foto dell'ingresso della caverna, ma è stata un'esperienza che consiglio a chiunque si trova nella zona. (Le foto sul sito loro non fanno vedere bene quanto è spettacolare.)
You couldn't take pictures inside, so I only have these ones of the beginning of the cave, but it was an experience that I'd suggest to anyone in the area. (The pictures on the website don't do it justice.)

Non so perché avevo deciso di condividere queste cose della mia vita privata, che di solito cerco di tenere più o meno... private, appunto.
