Corfu holidays: Corfu town & Akilleio

Primi giorni sull'isola di Corfù: approdati alla città di Corfù (Kerkyra), ci siamo poi spostati per alloggiare a Benitses, un paesino di pescatori minuscolo ma con un porto delizioso e molto più tranquillo e con l'occasione abbiamo anche visitato Moraitika, il paesino successivo, caratterizzato da un mare limpido e calmissimo e dalla spiaggia ricoperta di alberi di eucalipto fino a riva, tanto che a momenti sembrava più di essere al lago che al mare!
I giorni successivi, dopo aver visitato Corfù città, con la fortezza veneziana, l'Esplanada, la piazza più bella della Grecia, ed il celelbre monastero di Vlacherna (su un'isoletta collegata alla terra tramite un pontile) siamo passati a Kanoni (che sarebbe un'altro paesello, ma sostanzialmente è la zona più residenziale della città) famoso per la vista su Vlacherna e Pontikonissi, l'isoletta proprio di fronte, un pò il simbolo dell' isola.
Purtroppo il giorno dopo è stato brutto tempo (fortunatamente l'unico di tutta la vacanza), ma dato che non tutti i mali vengono per nuocere siamo andati a visitare l'unico sito monumentale importante di tutta l'isola: l'Achilleio, la meravigliosa residenza estiva della Principessa Sissi ispirata al mito di Achille, un'edificio in stile neoclassico tenuto benissimo.
Il fatto che piovesse a tratti alla fine ci ha fatto comodo, abbiamo visitato con calma tutto il palazzo e, dato che tutti tendevano a rimanere al coperto, abbiamo potuto scattare le foto degli splendidi giardini senza che ci fosse troppa gente in mezzo! :)
First days on Corfu island: we arrived with our boat at Corfu town (Kerkyra), then we moved to stay in Benitses, a small village with an harbor tiny but lovely and much quieter than Corfu's one.
We also visited Moraitika, the next village, characterized by a clear sea very calm and the beach covered with eucalyptus trees to the shore, it is very peculiar, from time to time it felt more like being at the lake then at the beach!
The next few days, after visiting Corfu town, with its Venetian fortress, the Esplanada, the most beautiful square of Greece, and the famous monastery of Vlacherna (on a small island connected to the mainland by a pier) we switched to Kanoni (which would be another village, but basically it is the more residential area of the city)that is famous for the view of Vlacherna and Pontikonissi, the small island just in front of it, the symbol of this 'island
Unluckily the next day was bad weather (fortunately the only one of the whole holiday), but since that not all silver lining, we rented a car and went to visit the only important monumental site of the island: the Achilleio, the wonderful summer residence of Princess Sissi, a building in neoclassical style immaculately maintained
The fact that sometimes it rained, in the end was a good thing, we visited with calm throughout the building, and since everybody tended to stay indoors, we could take pictures of the beautiful gardens without there being in the middle of too much people! :)
