Eduardo Kobra is an exponent of Sao Paulo’s neovanguard. His talent emerges around 1987, on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, and soon spread and the city. Following the developments that urban art gained in Sao Paulo, he converged – with Studio Kobra, created in the decade of 1990 – to an original mural painting, taking advantage of his characteristics as an experimenter artist, good designer and skilled realistic painter. In this way he develops the project “Walls of Memory”, which goal is to transform the urban landscape through art and bring back the memories of the city. A synthesis of his peculiar cretaive process, whereby he paints but also sticks, overlaps and interferes with scenes and characters from the first decades of the twentieth century, this project is a joint of nostalgia and modernity, resulting in scenographic paintings, some of them monumental. Through these portals to create nostalgic moments of the city, the largest of these murals, measuring 1000 m2, was held in 2009 at Avenida 23 May in celebration of the anniversary of Sao Paulo.
Kobra presents works that are rich in trace, light and shadow. The result is a series of three-dimensional murals that allow the public to interact with the work. The idea is to establish a comparison between the romantic air and the atmosphere of nostalgia, with constant turmoil characteristic of large cities like Sao Paulo nowadays.
At the same time, Kobra takes part in exhibitions in and outside Brazil and he also makes research on the use of recycled materials and new technologies such as 3D painting on pavements. At the Patriarca Square, in Sao Paulo, the artist made the first 3D painting on pavement in Brazil.
The anamorphic technique seems to “deceive the eye”, the painting may appear distorted at a certain angle, but viewed from the correct angle, which is stipulated by the artist “becomes” 3D, featuring an amazing range of depth and realism. The artist’s latest project, called “Green Pincel”, aims to artistically combat the various types of assault from mankind to nature and the environment.
