Umbria, arrivo!!!

The blog Trippando, in collaboration with the Gastronomia Andreani, launched a competition about Umbria for travel bloggers on November 23, 2011.The title of the competition itself, “Tasting Umbria”, told a lot about the type of stories the organizers were looking for: you should tell Umbria through either its food and wine specialties or the scenic beauty it offers to visitors and tourists – at least for those who visited it. The prize was abundantly rich: a two-night stay for two people at the Residenze L’Alberata, a regional cooking class and a gourmet gift upon arrival in Collepepe (Perugia).
I have never been so lucky as to visiting Umbria so far, although it’s not that far from where I live. So I couldn’t but enter the competition. Cooking is a great passions of mine, you know it, and the regional cooking class – something that the Gastronomia Andreani periodically organizes with the skilled supervision by Chef Mum Silvana – was a very attractive part of the prize to me. So I started working on my story, trying to make it as intriguing as original. The deadline to submit the stories was December 23 and only the five stories which rank among the most voted would enter the final phase. Many of you considered my story (in Italian) as interesting and commented on it on the blog Trippando. The contest closed on January 3 publicizing the finalists, my story included. The competition has been very hard: every and each of the participating stories were very interesting, offering very good hints about what I discovered is a generous region. A region inviting at meditation as well as at appreciating the value hidden in simple things and the pure values which have not changed in the communities of Umbria. Can you imagine my surprise when Silvia announced today that the winner was… me? The motivation given by the Andreani sisters for my victory is the following:
“Dear Aurora, time has finally come for you and Umbria to get to know each other! You arrived so close to the point many times, but never succeeded and the regret not to taste it as it deserves was actually revealed by your post. To make it up, you decided to recreate Umbria’s taste at your own house, looking for recepes that even the purest inhabitant of Umbria can’t always recall! Well, we decided to award the prize to you for your diligence and because you seem to be a person who never gives up. That’s the time, now it’s sure, so pack your bag!”
Since the competing stories were extraordinary, the jury decided to increase the number of prizes!!! So the competition was very successful and did a really great job in promoting Umbria at best. Thinking that Silvia, alias Mrs Trippando, could perhaps join me in Collepepe to spend a weekend together sharing good food would make the prize the top.
A big thank to the Andreani sisters to give me the opportunity of tasting their region for sure; many thans to Silvia for she thought about the competition and made it real; and thank you all for supporting and voting me. Umbria, I am coming!!!
