It does exist a lake, underground, covered by ice deep almost 4 chilometres. It is called Vostok lake, located in Antarctica. It has been discovered in the '70es when, for the first time, the area was scanned by deep radar.
This lake, that could fascinate us just because it's so peculiar, is important because it has been isolated from the rest of the world since 15 million years.
So, the question arises: What is down there?
In all these years the scientists had coring in the ice, and till today they have always found trace of form of life. This has caught the attention of astrobiologists. As you know, they are trying to understand how life could resist and reproduce in extreme situation, if not impossible for our species. Nello spazio è infatti più probabile trovare forme di vita completamente diverse dalla nostra piuttosto che uguali a noi. The capability to study extremophiles organisms is crucial to... try to understand what we might encounter out there.
