Il tasso, le sue abitudini
Il tasso (Meles meles), chiamato in America racoon, è un mustelide, insieme a lontra, ermellino, donnola e faina. Si distingue dalla testa che presenta la tipica colorazione bianca con due bande nere che lo contraddistinguono. Essa è in realtà una colorazione di avvertimento nei confronti dei predatori, davanti a potenziali nemici, mostra in maniera evidente le colorazioni della testa per farsi riconoscere come animale dalla forte dentatura e in grado di difendersi. Forma gruppi di tre o quattro indivudui con un maschio capobranco, è notturno e onnivoro, vive in ambienti pianeggianti e aree a bosco. Egli è molto altruista, infatti, se possiede una tana sufficientemente grande, la condivide con una volpe o un istrice. D’ inverno trascorre molto tempo nella tana, ma non va in letargo, come erroneamente si crede.
