ITA & ENG Cosa mi porto a casa - What do I bring home with me
- i pandispagna gia' pronti
ENG What do I bring home with me
Back home, sitting at the big table in the kitchen with the view on the Mont Blanc.
Yesterday we returned: the driver and the front passenger with fully full stomachs after the wedding party with Piedmont cuisine of one of my dearest friends, on our car overloaded with suitcases and bags. The Viatrix, sitting behind in her new car throne, happy with her new small piano player , strategically selected because of its low volume.
We were exchanging our summaries of the fifteen days earlier, as while I was based at my parents with the baby, traveling around to see some friends, the Senator was on business trips around the world, when the radio informed us of what happened in Rome on Saturday afternoon, while we were making toast to the health of the newly wedsLooking out the car windows, a sparkling blue sky blessed a continuous stream of fields, houses, hills and the castles, forts and mountains, until we reach the tunnel. We stopped just after popping out to the French side, staring for the umpteenth time at both the natural and engineering genius that creates the Aiguille du Midi. Then, we drove down to our place, surrounded by the autumn forest.
So, I could have start with a post on the romantic natural and architectural beauty that were the background of my last two weeks: the Monviso, Trento, Genoa, Turin, Barge, the vineyards after the harvest in the Oltrepo' region..I could have start with a post full of sadness after the events in Rome and all the stories of insecurity, aggression and injustice I've been listening to in these two weeks, thanks to which I see again fluorescent the content of my half full glass of being an expat wife in the middle of the mountains.I could have start with a post of emotions and friendship, telling about how It was to meet for the first time two girls with whom I've been corresponding almost everyday during my pregnancy and the first year as a mom.
It will be any of these topics, another time.Today and tomorrow and maybe even the day after it, I have to face a dozen assorted laundries, tidy up and clean a home where obviously in our absence a bunch of evil goblins come to play the Hurricaine, and I will have to do all of this while simultaneously look after the Viatrix, having lost the the training of mother - with- seven - arms - and- nine-eyes, cause in these two weeks there was my mom.
Facing this while mental. Xls file of looming housework to do, it puts me in a good mood to store those little trivial things that are so easy to buy in Italy and so difficult to find here: as a good expat, I bought them and brought them along with me.
When I was younger and I was going to visit the Senator in Poland, it was just a matter of fitting inside the hand luggage, which was not weighed at the time and that was not subject to restrictions on liquids, as much as possible of olive oil, wine, parmesan and gorgonzola, as well as panforte, gianduiotti and season sweets.
Now, I am sure that something in my life has profoundly change as I bring from Italy, in addition to the above mentioned:
- my favourite brand of bleach for the laudry of colorful clothes
- The superultrastainremover for ties
- The metal pads to clean the moka
- The ready to be use envelopes for budino and panna cotta
- Three cans of black olives (black olives here are sold only roasted)
- Several envelope of ready to be use ciobar chocolate
- The ready to use pan di spagna (bases for cakes)
- Pins, starlets and paddies from Barilla
- The Brioschi Effervescent digest podwer.
