Nove amici si sono ritrovati alle nove di mattina e dopo un'abbondante colazione al bar del campeggio si sono armati di santa pazienza per risalire il vento: costante a 10 km orari, con raffiche tra i 26 ed i 33, stabili per l'intera giornata. In compenso, niente pioggia ed un sole pieno ad illuminare le cime rugose della Grigna.
Noi avevamo un motivo in più per esultare: il nuovo kayak Greenland 550 della CS Canoe che finalmente Sandro Spagnol ci ha consegnato per una prova in acqua. Una prova coi fiocchi, vista la giornata!
Mauro ha cavalcato le onde con evidente soddisfazione, testando la (IN)stabilità del kayak e la sua manovrabilità, perfetto compromesso tra un buon kayak da eskimo ed un buon kayak da escursione: linee slanciate secondo la classica tradizione groenlandese e ponti bassi ma non troppo per assecondare la necessità di carico per viaggi di qualche giorno.
La barca sull'acqua si comporta egregiamente, taglia bene le onde di prua e serfa allegramente su quelle di poppa, ha una buona deriva posizionata all'estremità inferiore della poppa ed un nuovo sistema di fori passanti per le cime tientibene che rendono i ponti funzionali ed essenziali al tempo stesso.
Il pozzetto è abbastanza ampio per gli imbarchi e gli sbarchi in velocità, con due comode ali per le ginocchia che aumentano il controllo dell'imbarcazione ed un seggiolino che Mauro ha trovato tra i pochi adatti alle sue preziosissime ossicine...
Arrivati a Bellagio, mentre il vento rinforzava con raffiche che facevano cigolare i kayak adagiati sullo scivoli di ciottoli tra le Lucie in secca, i più volenterosi si sono concessi una lunga passeggiata in paese, sfoggiando vestiti civili particolarmente eleganti, vista la zona notoriamente famosa per il turismo di elite.
Io ho navigato sul nostro vecchio Greenland della Tahe Marine ma non mi sono azzardata a pagaiare con la Lendan divisibile che sempre Sandro mi ha dato in prova per "iniziare a scoprire i (dis)piaceri della pagaiata moderna": visto il vento, ho preferito mantenere il controllo della situazione e divertirmi a surfare tra le onde lacustri con le nuove fiammanti pagiae Pa.Ri.Gi.
Ma questa è tutta un'altra storia, che merita un post a parte... quanto prima!!!
What a wonderful day for a kayak test: disastrous forecast for the day before, on Sunday we have had a variable weather, wind and rain depending on the whims of Cronus, the god of time.
The lake marathon organized every year by Luciano on the most beautiful of the great lakes of the north, has become a long battle against the wind whe we paddle from Onno to Bellagio, and then a happy ride on the way to came back.
Mauro has paddled the waves with evident satisfaction, testing the (in)stability and maneuverability of the kayak, a perfect compromise between a good roll kayak and a good navigation kayak: slim lines according to the classic Greenland tradition and lower decks, but not too much, so to realize a soem day trip.
Nine friends gathered at nine o'clock in the morning and after a hearty breakfast at the camping bar, we were armed with holy patience to go upwind: constant wind at 5 knots, with gusts between 13 and 16, stable for the entire day. On the other hand, no rain and full sun to light the tops of the rough Grigna mountains.
We had a good reason to be excited: the new kayak called "Greenland 550" designed by Canoe CS that Sandro Spagnol finally gave us for a day test: a good test endeed, considering the day!
The boat behaves very well on the water, both with waves from the bow and the stern; it has a good skeg and a new system of holes that make the bridge functional and essential at the same time. The cockpit is large enough for launching and landing, with two comfortable wing for the knees that increase the control of the boat and a seat that Mauro has found one of the few suitable for his precious little bones...
Once in Bellagio, while the reinforced wind threatened the kayaks on the shingle slides between the other boats, the more willing of us were granted a long walk to town, dressing civilian clothes particularly elegant, due to the area well known to be the favourite place for the elite tourism.I paddled our old Greenland Tahe Marine, but I didn't use the Lendan split paddle that Sandro gave me for a test: to"start to discover the (dis)pleasures of the modern paddling".Depending on the wind, I preferred to maintain the control and have fun surfing the waves with the brand-new lake Greenland paddle called Pa.Ri.Gi.
