La storia della Polo

Oggi vi racconto una storia. La storia di come nasce la polo. Prima, però, bisogna fare omaggio a chi la inventò, e così vi racconterò anche la storia del simbolo di Lacoste. Siamo nel 1927: ecco quello che dice Renè Lacoste: "La stampa statunitense mi ha soprannominato "Il Coccodrillo" in seguito ad una scommessa che avevo fatto col Capitano della squadra francese della Coppa Davis. Mi aveva promesso una valigia in coccodrillo se avessi vinto una partita importante per la squadra. Il pubblico americano si è ricordato questo soprannome che sottolineava la tenacia da me dimostrata sui campi da tennis, in quanto non mollavo mai la preda! Il mio amico Robert George mi disegnò un coccodrillo che fu poi ricamato sul blazer che indossavo in campo".

Nel 1933, invece, come scritto anche all' interno dei negozi Lacoste, il famoso tennista ha un guizzo di genio: per affrontare il calore dei campi americani crea un indumento che unisce la t-shirt, comoda ma allora usata come una sorta di canottiera, e la camicia, più bella ed elegante. Nascerà così la polo.
Un' ultima curiosità: la polo Lacoste è il primo capo di abbigliamento a mostrare un logo visibile.
