Siamo partite dalla penisola per raggiungere, successivamente, il Borneo ed in particolare lo Stato del Sarawak.
Abbiamo concluso il viaggio a Singapore, facendo anche un rapido salto nello Stato del Brunei.
23 days in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.
We visited the peninsula and the Borneo, in particular the State of Sarawak.
We ended the trip to Singapore, making a quick stop in the State of Brunei.
Poche parole ma essenziali servono a descrivere la Malesia che si presenta ai suoi visitatori come un posto magico, il cui paesaggio, così vario, stimola, incuriosisce, emoziona e coinvolge. Dalla giungla, alle spiagge bianchissime, dal mare cristallino, al caos delle metropoli…impossibile annoiarsi.
Più selvaggia rispetto alla vicina Thailandia, la Malesia inizia, inevitabilmente, a registrare un notevole incremento del turismo. Ci auguriamo vivamente che sia in grado di gestirlo al meglio tutelando, quanto più possibile, la sua ricchezza!
Il percorso, come sempre, è stato definito on the road, così come i trasporti e gli alloggi.
Abbiamo preso voli interni, bus, minibus, barchine, pullman e dormito in alberghi a 4 stelle, in ostelli, in dormitori, in aeroporto ed in viaggio!
Il budget è stato abbastanza contenuto…la Malesia tutto sommato è abbastanza economica anche se più cara rispetto alla Thailandia.
We can use only few but essential words to describe Malaysia which presents itself to visitors as a really magic place. The landscape, so varied, is also very stimulating, exciting and involved. You can find the jungle, white sandy beaches, crystal clear sea, the chaos of the metropolis … It will be impossible to live a boring moment.
Wilder than the neighboring Thailand, Malaysia begins, unavoidably, to record a remarkable increment of tourism. We hope, sincerely, that Malaysian people will be able to guide their country in the best way, protecting as much possible its wealth!
The tour, as always, was defined step by step on the road.
We took internal flights, bus, minibus, little boats, slept on the coach and in hotels to 4 stars, hostels, dormitories, airport and travel!
Anyhow Malaysia is considered enough economic even if more expensive than Thailand.
Prima tappa: Kuala Lumpur

Capitale della Federazione della Malesia, è una moderna metropoli asiatica, popolata da quasi 2 mln di abitanti.
Capital city of the Federation of Malaysia, Kula Lumpur is a very modern Asian metropolis, with almost 2 mln of inhabitants.

L’albergo era di categoria alta ( 4 stelle) ma, avendo trovato un’offerta, abbiamo speso una cifra decisamente fattibile (15€ a notte). Il personale è stato gentilissimo ed efficiente, la struttura molto pulita. La posizione (attaccata a Little India – Cap Square) vi consentirà di raggiungere a piedi le principali attrazioni.
La scoperta della città inizia con l’immancabile visita al quartiere di China Town e più precisamente da Petaling street…la sua “porta d’accesso”.
Here, we stayed 3 nights at the Silka Maytower Hotel (http://www.silkahotel.com/maytower/), using the city like a base to visite the Batu Caves and Melaka.
The hotel was of high category (4 stars) but, having found an offer, we paid a really feasible price (15€ for night). The staff was kindly and efficient, the structure very clean. The position (close to Little India – Cap Square) will allow you to reach the main attractions by walking.
Our discovery of the city begins with the visit to China Town from Petaling street … its “gateway”.
Intorno a China Town, la città si compone di tantissime e antiche shophouse, oggi adibite, per lo più, a negozi, ostelli, ristoranti.
I loro vivaci colori e lo stile prettamente coloniale contrastano in maniera decisa con gli imponenenti grattacieli che le circondano ed proprio questa contrapposizione le rende ancora più affascinanti.
Around Little India, the city is composed of many ancient shophouses, today used generally like stores, hostels, restaurants.
Their lively colors and their purely colonial style are in contrast with the skyscrapers which encircle them. This opposition make them more fascinating.
Successivamente è la volta del Central Market dove troverete tantissimi negozi e bancaralle pronte a vendervi ogni genere di cosa, souvenir, abiti, gioeilli….
E’ uno dei mercati più antichi della città. A noi non è piaciuto tanto, ma una visita veloce si può fare.
After, we visited the Central Market where you will find many shops and stalls ready to sell you any kind of things, souvenirs, clothes, jewels ….
This is one of the oldest market in the city. We didn’t like it very much, but a quick visit can be done.
Merdeka Square ce la siamo goduta sotto il classico acquazzone tropicale!

E’ il simbolo dell’indipendenza della Malesia, proclamata il 31 agosto 1957 proprio lì, sul quel terreno che un tempo era stato un campo da cricket.
Lì sorge anche un pennone con la bandiera che pare sia il più alto al mondo (100m).
The square is the symbol of Malaysia’s independence which was proclaimed on August 31, 1957 , built where once had been a cricket ground.
There is also a flagpole which is the highest in the world (100m).
Alle 15:00 possiamo finalmente visitare la Masjid Jamek, una moschea veramente bella, una delle più suggestive della città.
At 15:00 pm we finally visited the Masjid Jamek, a really beautiful mosque, one of the most beautiful of the city.
Inevitabile, a quel punto, non addentrarsi e curiosare negli affollatissimi vicoli di Little India…dove è facilissimo perdersi!!
Impossible, then, not to go in the crowded streets of Little India …there, it is very simple to get lost!
L’intensa prima giornata si conclude con la visita al Thean Hou Temple. Leggermente fuori dal centro, si raggiunge prendendo la rail da Masjid Jamek fino a Tum Sambantan e poi 1 km a piedi.
The intense first day ends with a visit to Thean Hou Temple. Slightly off center, can be reached by taking the rail from Masjid Jamek to Tum Sambantan and then 1 km by feet.
La guida lo descrive come uno dei templi più straordinari della Malesia ma, a nostro avviso, non è così…visitatelo se vi avanza tempo!
The guide describes it as one of the most impressive temples in Malaysia but we do not agree with it… you can visit it if you have time!
Ore 20:00: abbiamo preso il biglietto per salire in cima alle Petronas Towers…di notte si sa…è tutto più suggestivo.
20:00 pm: we bought tickets to go on the top of the Petronas Towers in the night … because at that time is all more attractive.
Il biglietto costa all’incirca 20 € (80RM) e comprende anche la visita allo Skybridge che collega le due torri ad un’altezza di 170 m.

Le Petronas Towers rappresentano il simbolo di KL. Inaugurate nel 1988, queste due torri gemelle sono alte 451,9 m, con 88 piani, per lo più sede di numerose aziende.
The Petronas Towers are the symbol of KL. Inaugurated in 1988, these twin towers are 451.9 m high, with 88 floors which are headquarters of many companies.
Intorno si sviluppa il quartiree di KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) che in pochi anni ha conosciuto un rapidissimo sviluppo.
La sera ci siamo meritate una bella cena al Twentyone (20-1 Changkat bikit Bintang), a Bukit Bintang, una delle zone più vivaci, non solo la notte. Fa parte del Golden Triangle per via della sua ricchezza. E’ infatti la principale area commerciale della città, quartiere degli affari, dello shopping e dei divertimenti e sede, ovviamente, di numerosi alberghi.
E’ una strada piena di bar, locali e ristorantini niente male dove potre cenare e bere. La scelta è davvero ampia, ce ne è per ogni gusto.
The quartiree KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) develops around the towers. In a few years it has seen a rapid development.
In the evening we have a nice dinner at Twentyone (20-1 Changkat bikit Bintang), in Bukit Bintang, one of the most exciting areas, not only in the evening. It is part of the Golden Triangle because of its wealth. In fact it is the main shopping area of the city, the business district, and, of course, it is the location of numerous hotels.
There are a lot of bars, clubs and restaurants where you can eat and drink what you want. The choice is wide, there is something for everyone.
Poco distante, provate a fare due passi a Jalan Alor street…una volta arrivati, fatevi guidare dagli innumerevoli odori delle bancarelle, dei chioschi e dei ristorantini un po’ alla buona che incontrerete lungo la strada… decisamente caotica e piena di gente…è il posto giusto per vivere la vera essenza di KL.
Not far away, we suggest to walk to Jalan Alor street … once there, be guided by the many smells of the stalls, kiosks and restaurants along the way … decidedly chaotic and full of people … is the right place to experience the true essence of KL.
La mattina dopo, prendiamo un bus in Cap square (il n°11 ) ed arriviamo finalmente alle Batu Caves, da KL sono solo 15 km.
The next morning, we took a bus in Cap square (the n°11) and finally we arrived at Batu Caves, just 15 km from KL.
Grotte di formazione calcarea, molto affascinati e suggestive, sono considerate uno dei maggiori santuari indù del paese.
Ad accogliervi sarà l’enorme statua della dea della guerra Karttikeya (o Murugan). I 272 scalini vi condurrannno all’interno del tempio.
Caves of limestone formation, very fascinating and suggestive, are considered one of the biggest Hindu shrines in the country.
To welcome you there is the huge statue of the goddess of war Karttikeya (or Murugan). The 272 steps will guide you inside the temple.

Pay attention to the many monkeys that live in the caves and that, inevitably, they will be your travel mates!
La cava venne scoperta nell’800 da un naturalista americano. Praticamente ogni giorno vengono celebrate funzioni religiose ma le più importanti avvengono all’inizio tra gennaio e febbraio.
The cave was discovered in 800 by an American naturalist. Practically every day there are religious ceremonies but the most important occur at the beginning of January and February.
Di ritorno per l’ora di pranzo, decidiamo di mangiare direttamente ai Lake Gardens dove trascorreremo il pomeriggio.
Returned in time for lunch, we decided to eat directly at the Lake Garderns where we will spend the afternoon.
Impresa difficilissima raggiungerli, nessuno è stato in grado di indicarci la strada (complicata da trovare per via dei tanti cavalcavia e sottopassaggi che disorientano), nonostante si trovino nel cuore della città e conservino al loro interno alcune delle principali attrazioni turistiche come il KL Bird Park, la voliera più grande al mondo, il Museo d’Arte islamica, la Moschea Nazionale, il Planetario, il Museo Nazionale, il giardino delle orchidee.
It was very difficult to go there, no one has been able to show us the way (difficult to find because of the many overpasses and underpasses that disorient). The gardens are situated in the heart of the city and keep within them some of the major tourist attractions such as the KL Bird Park , the largest aviary in the world, the Museum of Islamic Art the National Mosque, the Planetarium, the National Museum, the orchid garden.

In the evening, we had dinner at Palate Palette, in Bukit Bintang and drank on the top floor of the Traders Hotel (Kuala Lumpur City Centre, City Centre, 50088) …. look at that view…it is fantastic!
Il locale è molto bello, dominato da una grande piscina nel mezzo, si sviluppa attraverso panoramiche vetrate con una vista mozzafiato. L’ingresso è gratuito…una volta sù, sta a voi decidere se bere qualcosa o no!
The sky bar on the top is very nice, dominated by a large swimming pool in the middle.
It has panoramic windows with a breathtaking view. Admission is free … once up, it’s up to you if drink something or not!
Il terzo giorno di viaggio lo dedichiamo ad una visita in giornata a Melaka, dal 2008 inserita tra i Patrimoni dell’Umanità dell’UNESCO.
Prendete la rail da Masijd Jamek fino a Salak Selatan, poi un bus ed in 2h sarete arrivati.
The third day of the trip was dedicated to visit Melaka which was from 2008 listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.
You have to take the rail from Masijd Jamek to Salak Selatan, then a bus which in 2 hours brings you there.
Si tratta di una cittadina che conserva ancora il fascino della sua storia. Di stampo decisamente coloniale, offre emblematiche testimonianze delle numerose dominazioni subite da parte di portoghesi, olandesi ed inglesi.
Anticamente Melaka fungeva da principale centro del commercio di spezie nella regione, per questo era spesso conosciuta anche come la Venezia d’Oriente.
Il centro storico è piccolino, facile da girare a piedi. Tutto intorno si trovano, a poca distanza una dall’altra, le principali attrazioni turistiche.
Considerate che dalla stazione al centro della cittadina, durante il weekend, ci vuole quasi un’ora con il bus, mezz’oretta circa in taxi.
Quando arriverete nella piazza principale, Town Square, verrete assaliti dai guidatori di risciò che cercheranno in ogni modo di convincervi a fare un giro. Noi alla fine l’abbiamo fatto…praticamente inutile visto che avremmo percorso 800 m neanche!
It is a town that still retains the charm of its history. Its main style is decidedly colonial and this offers an emblematic evidence of the numerous invasions by the Portuguese, Dutch and English.
In ancient time, Melaka was the main center of the spice trade in the region and because of this it was often known as the Venice of the East.
The centre is small, easy to visit by walking. All around there are at short distance from each other, the main tourist attractions.
Consider that the time to go from the station to the town center, over the weekend, takes almost an hour by bus, about half an hour by taxi.
When you arrive in the main square, Town Square, you will be attacked by rickshaw drivers who will attempt to convince you to take a ride. We did it… pretty much useless since we covered 800 m !
La piazza è dominata dallo Stadthuys, il municipio che conserva in maniera esemplare il classico stile olandese. Costruito nel 1600 è considerato uno dei palazzi olandesi più antichi d’Oriente. Il suo colore rossiccio, ripreso anche dagli edifici vicini, come la Chiesa di Cristo, una chiesa protestante costruita dai portoghesi nel 1753, conferisce alla piazza una speciale atmosfera.
The square is dominated by the Stadthuys, the town hall which preserves, in an exemplary manner, the classic Dutch style. Built in 1600 is considered one of the oldest Dutch buildings in the East. Its reddish color, also taken from neighboring buildings such as the Church of Christ, a Protestant church built by the Portuguese in 1753, creates a special atmosphere to the square.
Sulla piazza sorge anche la Torre dell’Orologio.
In the square there is also the Clock Tower.
A pochi passi dalla piazza, come vi dicevamo sopra, potrete ammirare la Porta de Santiago, unico resto di quella che un tempo era A famosa, una fortezza costruita dai portoghesi nel 1511.
Close to the square, you can see the Porta de Santiago, the only remains of what once was a famous fortress built by the Portuguese in 1511.
In cima alla collina dietro la Porta de Santiago troverete la splendida Chiesa di St. Paul, più esattamente ciò che resta della stessa. Testimonianza del cattolicesimo, anch’essa costruzione portoghese, venne edificata nel 1521.
On top of the hill, behind the Porta de Santiago, you will find the beautiful Church of St. Paul.
Testimony of Catholicism, also this, is a Portuguese construction, built in 1521.
La chiesa offre un fantastica panorama di tutta Melaka. Al suo interno si trovano diverse lapidi, sotto le quali riposano nobili olandesi.
The church offers a fantastic view of the whole Melaka. Inside there are several tombstones, under which the Dutch nobles were buried.
Sul cortile troverete una statua di marmo raffigurante il Santo Francesco Saverio. Egli era solito visitare la chiesa. Dopo la sua morte, prima che la sua salma fosse portata a Goa, le sue spoglie vennero sepolte qui per nove mesi.
In the courtyard there is a marble statue of the Saint Francis Xavier. During his life, he used to visit the church. After his death, before his body was brought to Goa, his remains were buried here for nine months.
Immancabile anche qui, il quartiere di China Town che si sviluppa intorno a Jonker Street, la via principale dove troverete botteghe di ogni tipo e antiche shophouse.
Even here there is, obviously, the district of China Town that develops around Jonker Street. It is the main street where you will find every kind of shops and old shophouses.
A Jonker Street, nel weekend, si tiene un night market niente male…pieno soprattutto di bancarelle alimentari…se vi capita passateci.
Lì troverete il Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, dedicato alla dea Misericordia, è uno dei templi cinesi più antico della Malesia.
In Jonker Street, over the weekend, there is a night market very nice… especially full of food stalls … if you have time, go there.
There you will find the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, dedicated to the goddess Mercy. It is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Malaysia.
Sulla stessa strada del tempio cinese si trova la moschea di Kampung Kling.
On the same street of the Chinese temple, there is the Kampung Kling Mosque.
Melaka è inoltre famosa per la sua cucina. Vi consigliamo di fermarvi a gustare alcune delle specialità della cucina nonya, un mix di ingredienti cinesi insaporiti da spezie malesi.
Il cendol è la bevanda che andava per la maggiore. Si tratta di una bevanda i cui ingredienti principali sono: latte di cocco, gelatine a base di farina di riso con colorante alimentare verde (di solito derivato dalle foglie pandan), ghiaccio tritato e zucchero di palma. Altri ingredienti come i fagioli rossi, riso glutinoso, erba gelatina, crema di mais, possono essere aggiunti.
Melaka is also famous for its cuisine. If you want to taste it, there are a lot of restaurants and stalls of the nonya cuisine, which is a mix of Chinese ingredients flavored with Malaysian spices.
The Cendol is the drink that was the most popular. It is a beverage of which basic ingredients are coconut milk, a worm-like jelly made from rice flour with green food coloring (usually derived from the pandan leaf), shaved ice and palm sugar. Other ingredients such as red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly, creamed corn, might also be included.
Noi abbiamo optato per un dolcetto nonya, preparato con una pastella e cotto all’istante. Molto buono, all’interno aveva una specie di crema all’ananas!
We opted for a sweet Nonya, made with a batter and cooked instantly. Very good, inside there was a kind of cream with pineapple!
Non andate via, senza aver fatto una passeggiata lungo il Fiume Sungai Melaka che divide il centro storico da Chinatown.
Do not go away without doing a walk along the Sungai Melaka River which divides the historic center from Chinatown.
