All’inizio fu il massacro di Haymarket (Chicago, 1886) – anche se Rosa Luxemburg ne ricorda doverosamente le remote origini australiane. La tappa successiva ful il 1889, durante il primo congresso della Seconda Internazionale socialista, quando Raymond Lavigny fece approvare la proposta di una grande manifestazione per il successivo 1890, in occasione dell’anniversario delle proteste di Chicago. Due anni dopo la festa del lavoro fu ufficializzata anche in Italia. Ovviamente, fu abolita durante il ventennio (e ripristinata al termina della guerra); e altrettanto ovviamente la chiesa (non potendo fare altro) pensò bene (nel 1955) di dedicare il giorno al “lavoratore San Giuseppe” e “a tutti coloro che combattono il comunismo” (dimostrando una volta di più il nicodemismo e l’astuzia politica che l’hanno sempre caratterizzata nella sua storia millenaria).
La ‘povna quest’anno lo ricorda un po’ così, da cittadina-professoressa (però vi invita, se avete voglia, a contribuire al dibattito di Mel). Poi, siccome è pure malata di parole, come sempre, e crede anche nel ‘canta-che-ti-passa’, ci attacca pure una poesia di Walter Crane 1894, (molto bella, e con relativa immagine), e in coda (quand’anche non si volesse ascoltare piazza S.
