Mazzy Star - She Hangs Brightly (1990)

(ITA) Ascoltando Blue flower, palesemente scopiazzata da I’ll be your mirror dei Velvet Underground, verrebbe da pensare che i Mazzy Star siano l’ennesimo gruppo post-Paisley poco originale che attinge a piene mani dal folk psichedelico degli anni ‘60. Invece, ad un ascolto più attento, si nota come le delicate filigrane musicali del chitarrista Roback, unite al canto celestiale della giovane sciamana Sandoval (la Nico degli anni ‘90), creano un effetto mistico, rendendo eterea anche la melodia più semplice. E’ un lavoro ancora imperfetto, ma contiene almeno un capolavoro, la title track, “una ballata spettrale, avvolta in una torbida bruma di organi alla Manzarek e di languori chitarristici (Scaruffi)”.

(ENG) Listening to Blue flower, which is obviously a clone of I'll Be Your Mirror by the Velvet Underground, you would think that the band Mazzy Star is yet another post-Paisley unoriginal band that draws liberally from the '60s psychedelic folk. With a more careful listening, you notice that the delicate music-filigrees of guitarist Roback, together with the heavenly sing of the young shaman Sandoval (the Nico of the '90s), create a mystical effect instead, making ethereal even the easier melody.
