Moments of Stasis

Rimango sempre colpita dalle immagini in cui non riesco a comprendere da subito se si tratti di fotografia o pittura o un mix delle due. Dalle immagini fuori dal tempo e da uno spazio definito, in cui le proporzioni sono inventate, interpretate, non soltanto per un gioco surreale, ma per rendere visibile un messaggio/racconto. Tutto ciò, unito alla grazia di femminile di Carla Ciuffo (fotografa americana, dal nome italiano), mi ha incantata.

I’m always struck by the images that I cannot immediately understand whether it is painting or photograph, or a mix of two arts. By pictures out of time and out a defined space, in which the proportions are invented, interpreted, not only for a surreal game, but in order to make visible a message/story. All this, combined with the feminine grace of Carla Ciuffo (American photographer with an italian name), enchanted me.

Queste fotografie sussurrano a me storie di persone “nel mezzo”, in bilico tra un estremo e l’altro, ferme a pensare prima di agire. Momenti di riflessione, dunque, immersi in elementi naturali essenziali, enormi rispetto all’uomo, eppure così avvolgenti. Sì, penso che svegliarsi e vedere di fronte a sè un’immagine come queste sia come prendere un respiro prima di iniziare la giornata.

These photographs whisper to me stories of people “in the middle”, teetering from one extreme to the other, still thinking before acting. Moments of reflection, therefore, surrounded by essential, natural elements, huge compared to man, yet so enveloping. Yes, I think that waking up and seeing a picture like these ones in front of himself is like taking a breath before starting the day.
