Could it be possible, for an airplane, to flight without wings? The NASA works on this issue since 1950, and the prototype M2-F1 is the example that answer with a "yes" to the question. This veicle has not an engine, si really light, and have a cockpit for a pilot. It was built in 1963; it was capable - once it was get in quote by a normal plane - to fly pushed by currents, maybe as a glider, and to land softly to the ground. From this project has started the study of a military version X24, the landing system of the Space Shuttle, but also the most recent X38... a NASA project for a small shuttle capable to reach the ISS; project stopped in 2002 for budget problems.
