Painting of the week - L'intérierur

Si distingue dal colore e dall'allegria che in genere gli impressionisti come Manet e Renoir trasmettono sulle loro tele; Edgar Degas, impressionista degli "interni" prediligeva realtà intime e quotidiane alla gioia dei giardini e deii fiori, utilizzando colori cupi e austeri, quasi a significare la malinconia dei suoi soggetti.
Fu nota a tutti la sua celebre ossessione per le ballerine, raffigurate con estrema grazia, in ogni loro analitico istante di vita.
L'opera di cui vi parleremo oggi è conosciuta come"L'interieur" ou "le viol", "L'interno" o "La violenza".
Un'opera non troppo celebre, ma assolutamente significativa per l'attività dell'artista, che la dipinse nel 1868 e della quale non si conoscono molti dettagli, se non che il titolo originario (Lo stupro) fu subito respinto.
I due personaggi appaiono opposti sia nella posizione che nella loro natura: la ragazza eterea e delicata è vestita di bianco ed ha una spalla nuda, siede immobile quasi in accettazione della violenza subita; sulla porta, l'uomo, fiero e dominante, tiene le mani in tasca e le gambe divaricate, in segno di affermazione.
Egli indossa abiti scuri e poco si scorge del suo volto, nascosto dall'oscurità.
Dettaglio interessante il suo orecchio, che appare quasi appuntito, come a voler conferire all'uomo una natura a tratti demoniaca.
Il letto si mostra volutamente più lungo del dovuto, ad esso è probabilmente affidata la simbologia relativa alla grandezza dell'orrore manifestatosi, inghiottendo per sempre l'innocenza della vergine.
Tra gli elementi dominanti la luce, che illumina perfettamente la scena: il corsetto di lei giace in terra e sul tavolo lo scrigno aperto mostra la biancheria scomposta. Poi, essa si posa fastidiosamente sulla donna, che si prospetta bruciata dall'illluminazione che imprime nell'istante il peso della violenza subita.
Ma al di là della brutalità della scena, Degas riesce a rendere in maniera precisa l'interiorità dei personaggi.
La compostezza e la dignità della ragazza dequalifica l'atteggiamento vanaglorioso dell'uomo attraverso cui egli strasmette una forte indigenza.
Un'opera che descrive il dolore con grande realismo e che trova nella metafora dell'"Interiore" tutto il suo intrinseco significato.
It distinguish by color and happiness that generally, Impressionists such as Manet and Renoir transmit on their paintings, Edgar Renoir, impressionist of "internal"spaces actually preferred the intimate realities to the joy of gardens and flowers, using dark and austere colors, almost mean the melancholy of his subjects.
It was known to all his obsession for the famous dancers, depicted with extreme grace, in every analytical moment of their life.
The work of which I will talk about today is known as " The interieur " ou " the viol ", " Inside " or " The rape".
Not too famous work, but definitely significant for the artist activity, who painted it in 1868 and about which we don't know many details, except that the original title (The rape) was immediately rejected.
The two characters appear opposite in the position as in their nature: the ethereal and delicate girl is dressed in white and has a bare shoulder, sitting almost motionless in acceptance of violence, on the door, the man, proud and dominant, holding hands in his pockets and legs apart, in sign of affirmation.
He's wearing dark clothes and little can be seen of his face, hidden by the darkness.
An interesting detail from his ear, which appears almost pointed, as if to give man a demonic nature.
The bed, deliberately longer than it should, it's probably responsible for the symbolism of the weight of violence engulfing forever the innocence of the virgin.
Among the dominant elements of the light that perfectly illuminates the scene: the corset lies on the floor and the open chest on the table shows decomposed whites. Then, it rests uncomfortably on the woman, burned from power of light that impress on her the weight of violence.
But beyond the brutality of the scene, Degas fails to make precisely the characters inner life.
The composure and dignity of the girl's attitude disqualifies  the vainglorious man through whom he transmit a strong hardship.
A work that describes the pain with great realism and uses the "Interior" metaphor of " throughout its intrinsic meaning.
