Painting of the week: La nuit

L'opera che vi presento oggi, del 1883, appartiene ad un eccelso pittore francese contemporaneo, Auguste Raynaud e devo dire con grande dispiacere, molto poco conosciuto nel mondo nell'arte nonostante le sue evidenti capacità espressive e stilistiche.Il soggetto del dipinto è la notte, identificata in una donna bellissima ed affascinante.E' incredibile come sia facile percepire il suo movimento e la grazia con cui essa trasporti il velo stellato, nell'intento di adagiarlo sul cielo crepuscolare, per far sì che cali la notte, appunto. Sul suo capo si scorge una stella più grande, che le calza come una corona, a lei, che è regina del mondo e che consegna quiete e riposo ad ogni cosa.Da lontano, si scorge su di una vetta, una creatura alata, molto probabilmente un gufo, volatile che vive nelle ore notturne e che simbolegga l'attesa del suo avvento.La morbidezza delle forme della donna inoltre, assieme alla cura con cui sono realizzati piedi e mani, delicatissimi ed il piglio di queste ultime nei confronti del velo, esprimono tutta la sua leggiadrìa.Bellissimo il contrasto con il cielo vespertino con qualche accenno di luce, che pian piano si confonde col buio, a significare la perfezione con cui la notte arrivi senza farsene accorgere, per non destare la calma di nessuno. 
The work I am presenting today painted in 1883 belongs to a sublime contemporary French painter, Auguste Raynaud and I must say with great regret, very little known in art world despite his obvious stylistic and expressive skills.The subject of the painting is the night, identified in a beautiful and fascinating woman.It 'amazing how easy it's to perceive her movement and grace with which she transports the starry veil, in order to lay it on the twilight sky, so that nightfall, in fact.  On her head you can see a bigger star, that fits like a crown, to her that is the queen of the world and who delivers quiet and rest to everything.From a distance, you can see on a summit, a winged creature, probably an owl, bird that lives at night and that symbolizes the expectation of her coming.The softness of the shapes of the woman also, together with the care with which they made her feet and hands, and the delicate air of the latter against the veil, expressing all its loveliness.We love the contrast with the evening sky still full of some hints of light, which gradually merges with the darkness, signifies the perfection with which the night arrivals surreptitiously, to avoid arousing calm of anyone.
