Painting of the week: Le chevalier aux fleurs

E' proprio vero che viaggiare apre la mente. Ci fa scoprire un'infinità di cose nuove e si ha la possibilità di visitare luoghi splendidi e musei nuovi, osservando sempre straordinarie opere diverse e inaspettatamente incantevoli. E' il caso di questa eccelsa opera del 1894, Il cavaliere dei fiori, capolavoro che ho scoperto durante la mia recente visita al Musée d'Orsay e che ho subito pensato di farvi conoscere.L'autore, Georges Rochegrosse, abilissimo pittore e illustratore francese, svolge un raffinato lavoro di coniugando in questo dipinto tutti i egli conosce bene il pubblico dell'epoca e si dimostra un acuto osservatore dei gusti artistico-culturali correnti. Di fatti, tutti gli elementi presenti nel dipinto, ne sono una rapida dimostrazione.Il realismo del soggetto, ispirato alla celebre opera teatrale del Parsifal, dimostra la volontà dell'autore di elevare i valori e gli ideali dell'eroe, che forte della sua castità, una volta introdottosi nel giardino incantato all'interno del Castello del mago Klingsor, rimane completamente indifferente alla tentazione carnale indotta dalle ragazze fiore, che si presentano quasi completamente spoglie, se non coperte da piccoli dettagli di tulipani, iris, peonie e piante meravigliosamente variopinte. La sua armatura, elegante emblema della sua strenuità risplende in mezzo ai vividi colori e si distingue immobile in mezzo alla fluttuazione caotica delle fanciulle.Le tracce del simbolismo all'interno dell'opera sono orgogliose ed evidenti, così come i richiami alla pittura impressionista, palesati dall'attenzione per le piante e all'utilizzo dei colori. Non c'è da meravigliarsi, data la familiarità del pittore alle scenografie teatrali ed alle illustrazioni fantastiche. Egli sorprende tutti con la sua significativa capacità di coinvolgere lo spettatore alla visione del quadro, emozionandolo con le stesse tecniche utilizzate nel teatro. Il pathos trasmesso dal cavaliere nel momento in cui ci si trova al suo cospetto è fortissimo: se vi trovate a Parigi, non potete astenervi dalla visita del museo che lo custodisce per poterlo ammirare da vicino.

In fact, all the elements in the painting, are a quick demonstration .The realism of the subject, inspired by the famous play of Parsifal demonstrates the willingness of the author to raise the values ​​and ideals of the hero, who thanks to his chastity, who, once he has entered  intothe enchanted garden inside magician Klingsor castle, he remains completely indifferent to the carnal temptation induced by flower girls, who are almost completely bare, if not covered by small details of tulips, irises, peonies and wonderfully colorful plants. His armor, elegant emblem of his virtue shines in the midst of vivid colors and stands motionless in the middle of the chaotic fluctuation of the girls.The traces of the symbolism within the work are proud and obvious, as well as references to the Impressionist painting, made ​​manifest by the attention to the plants and the use of colors. It's no wonder, given the familiarity of the painter to stage sets and  fantastic illustrations. He surprises everyone with its significant ability to engage the viewer to the vision of the picture, amazed by  the same techniques used in theater.
