La mattina di Ferragosto è stata dedicata alla visita della Reggia di Versailles, un luogo magnifico a pochi chilometri da Parigi e comodamente raggiungibile tramite la RER. Vi consiglio vivamente di andarci nella prima ora di apertura, come abbiamo fatto noi, se non un po' prima, perché la coda che si forma è davvero impressionante! Se avete il diritto di entrare gratuitamente (vedi qui), non dovete fare prima il biglietto, ma potete inserirvi direttamente nella coda principale (in quasi tutti gli altri posti invece dovete fare la coda per avere in mano un biglietto con scritto "entrata gratuita"). All'interno delle sfarzose sale reali abbiamo trovato anche delle operedell'artista portoghese Joana Vasconvelos quali cuori fatti di posate, scarpe giganti create con pentole e coperchi, un elicottero dorato realizzato con piume rosa, leoni coperti da merletti. Da guardare con attenzione sono anche i giardini che circondano l'edificio. Noi abbiamo deciso di osservarli solo dall'esterno, mentre visitavamo gli interni, perché l'ingresso era per noi di circa 8 euro e ci avrebbe portato via troppo tempo. Per l'ora di pranzo siamo tornati nel centro della città.We dedicated the whole morning of the 15th August to the visit of the Versailles Palace, a wonderful place set a few kilometers from Paris and easily reachable trough the RER. I strongly suggest you to go there in the firts hour of opening, as we did, or better a bit before, because the queue which can set up is really impressive! If you can enter free (read here), you don't have to make the ticket and you can go direcly in the main queue (instead, in the other places you have to queue for a free ticket).In the opulent royal rooms we found also some pieces of art by the Portoguese artist Joana Vasconvelos like hearts made by cutlery, giant shoes created with pots and lids, a gold elycopter full of pink feathers, lions covered by crochets. You have also to look at the garden around the building. We decided to watch them only outside, while we were visiting the inner, because the entrance was about 8 euros and it would take us too much time.For the lunch time we returned in the centre of the city.
Versailles
Abbiamo pranzato nei giardini de Les Invalides, per poi visitare la chiesa Saint-Louis des Invalides, dove si trova la tomba di Napoleone, e il museo delle armi, dove abbiamo potuto ammirare corredi militari da tutto il mondo.Abbiamo poi camminato per la lunga via davanti all' Hôtel des Invalides che, attraverso il ponte di Alexandre III, ci ha portato davanti al Grand Palais e il Petit Palais, due palazzi grandiosi posti in una zona altrettanto bella. Infatti, a pochi passi si può passeggiare sugli Champs-Élysées fino all'Arco di trionfo. Abbiamo riservato però questo giro ai giorni successivi e ci siamo spostati in un altra adorabile parte di Parigi, l' Ile de la Cité, per visitare la Saint Chapelle, capolavoro gotico che mi ha lasciata a bocca aperta per le sue vetrate.
Dopo aver visto passare la processione, ci siamo concessi un Frappuccino da Starbucks e un po' di shopping ne Les Marais, quartiere pieno di negozi vintage e tipici francesi, oltre che alle grandi catene, che però non ho neppure considerato ;)

We had lunch in the gardens of Les Invalides, to visit then the Saint-Louis des Invalides, where you can find the Napoleon Tumb, and the army museum, where we could admire military equipment from all over the world.
Then we walked for the long street in front of the Hôtel des Invalides which, through the Alexandre III bridge, took us outside the Grand Palaisand thePetit Palais, two magnificent palaces set in an equally great zone. Indeed, a few steps from themyou can have a walk in the Champs-Élysées to the Triumphal Arch. We kept this tour for the following days and we went to an other adorable part of Paris: the Ile de la Cité, to visit the Saint Chapel, Gothic masterpiece which had left me speechless for its stained glass windows.
After the procession, we granted a Frappuccino at Starbucks and a bit of shopping in the Les Marais, a quarter full of vintage and typical French shops, as well as big stores, which I had not even considered ;)
