INTERVISTA: ELENA PIGNATA

In questo periodo sono molto contenta…il blog sta crescendo (e un grazie enormeeeeeeeee va soprattutto a voi :) ) e ho diversi progetti in ballo :D Uno di questi, come vi avevo accennato, è una serie di interviste che vorrei realizzare ad alcuni ex concorrenti di Project Runway ITALIA. Ricordate QUELLA AL TRASGRESSIVO ROCCO GALLUCCIO? Oggi invece si vola alla finale, presentandovi la seconda classificata del programma, la torinese ELENA PIGNATA, proprietaria del brand Ombradifoglia (il nome è ispirato a una canzone torinese).

Oggi 30enne, Elena nasce a Bra, in provincia di Cuneo. La sua vocazione inizia a farsi sentire in terza media, anche se lei sostiene di non aver mai dato un inizio preciso al suo sogno. “Ho trovato quello che mi piace e lo sto facendo, ma non ho mai detto ‘Voglio fare la stilista’!” afferma. Ha poi studiato all’Istituto Feller di Alba (CN) e al Secoli di Milano e collaborato con brand noti. Oggi dispone di diversi rivenditori della sua linea, appunto, Ombradifoglia, mentre la sede principale si trova a Torino, in Via Catania 16. È proprio lì che ho avuto il piacere di incontrarla e farle qualche domanda.

Questa volta, più che un’intervista, è stata una piacevole chiacchierata, sedute su comode poltrone vintage e circondate da un’atmosfera particolare, un po’ caotica, ma estremamente rilassante e curiosa, tra macchine da cucire (anch’esse vintage), rocchetti di filo, carta modello e ritagli di stoffa. “Scusa il disordine!” continua a ripetermi. Io le rispondo che non deve scusarsi e che io sono uguale…e poi deve essere così, è un po’ come entrare nella sua testa.

Di tanto in tanto si allontana per servire. Io ne approfitto per curiosare e scattare qualche foto. Intanto la osservo: disponibilissima, “coccola” le sue clienti una ad una: fa provare gli abiti scelti o preparati apposta per loro, da consigli, alternative e ascolta attentamente i loro desideri. E, mentre loro provano, lei continua a preparare gli altri ordini, tra taglia e cuci e stira. Per lei femminilità non significa per forza essere provocatorie (a differenza di Rocco, vero fanciullo?? :D), ma piuttosto un’idea più concettuale, fatta di linee morbide. “Mi piace il vestito sopra il pantalone, mi piace il largo!” E che largo!! Ha vestito una signora sui 45/50 anni, non troppo alta e un fisico normale per quell’età ma ben tenuto (snella con un poco di pancetta insomma) con un paio di pantaloni palazzo e una blusa-gilet fasciante sul seno e morbida sotto. A pensarlo sembra un abbinamento da NON fare! La signora in questione era stupenda!!!!!

Curiosa come sono, non potevo non chiederle di parlarmi della sua esperienza a Project Runway.
Fantastica! Sono cresciuta, ho imparato tantissimo, non solo dal punto di vista professionale, ma anche personalmente. Vivere a stretto contatto con tante persone di cui non sai assolutamente nulla è un’esperienza strana, ma bella!

Inizia così il suo racconto, fatto di ricordi ed emozioni tutt’ora presenti nella sua vita.
Con i ragazzi (Giorgia Fiore, Rocco Galluccio, Marco Taranto e Salvo Presti, n.d.r.) ho legato tanto. Con Rocco ho anche lavorato insieme. Ci sentiamo tutti spessissimo e quando possiamo ci vediamo! Durante la finale, a Milano, mi sono attaccata tanto a Giorgia. Mentre Marco era preso dai suoi preparativi io e lei facevamo un sacco di cose insieme!

Dev’essere stata un’esperienza bellissima, ma anche m0lto stressante.
Certo! Non avevamo nulla, nè cellulari, nè pc, nè riviste, nè niente. Non potevamo distrarci un attimo con altre cose, nemmeno guardare le e-mail. Ci davano la consegna e in quelle 12 ore dovevamo fare tutto. 12 ore che si trasformavano in 6 per colpa dei confessionali, delle riprese, ecc… Oggi, riguardandomi, mi rendo conto che certe cose, in un’altra situazione, non le avrei mai fatte.

La finale però è stata diversa. Lì è uscita la vera essenza di ognuno di voi.
Per la collezione finale abbiamo avuto più tempo. Siamo tornati a casa, anche se per sole due settimane. Avevamo finalmente l’occasione di far vedere chi eravamo davvero.

E devo dire che ci è riuscita benissimo, con una collezione fresca, che ha portato il sole, colorando il black&white delle passerelle milanesi della Fashion Week.

Ti dispiace non aver vinto?
Mi sarebbe dispiaciuto non essere arrivata in finale, ma sono contenta che abbia vinto Marco. Se lo merita, è giovane e ha un sacco di talento. Io ho la mia boutique e le mie clienti e non voglio abbandonare questo progetto.

Il giudice più severo?
Eva Herzigova.

Alberta Ferretti?
La mamma. Ci siamo sentite anche dopo, mi è venuta a trovare, eravamo un po’ come suoi figli!

A cosa ti ispiri quando crei?
A tutto! Una canzone, un film, una frase, un quadro…e ovviamente ai desideri delle mie clienti!

Parla di loro con affetto, come se fossero le sue amiche…e alcune lo sono davvero…

Quando una cliente viene da me per un abito, inizia un percorso, in cui ci vediamo, parliamo, proviamo, …e alla fine si crea tra noi un rapporto di amicizia. Ti stanca ma è anche molto gratificante. La cliente sa di avere un pezzo unico, creato apposta per lei in quell’occasione, matrimonio (Elena produce anche abiti per cerimonie, n.d.r.) o altro che sia.

Il tempo sta per scadere. Ora sono arrivate due clienti e per loro non basta un quarto d’ora. Un’ultima foto insieme (quanto è alta??) e i saluti finali.

È stata una bellissima giornata. Io ero un po’ emozionata ma mi sono sentita subito a mio agio. Dal momento in cui ho messo piede nell’atelier di Elena Pignata, è stato come entrare nella sua testa ed è stato un viaggio molto interessante ;)

In this period I’m very happy…the blog is growing up (a special thanks goes to you :) ) and there are different projects in progress :D One, as i told you, is a series of interviews to some of former competitors of Project Runway ITALIA. Remember the TRASGRESSIVE ROCCO GALLUCCIO? Today we talk about the finale and I’m gonna to introduce you the second classified, from Turin, ELENA PIGNATA, owner of the brand Ombradifoglia (the name is inspired to a Turin song).

30 years old, she born in Bra (province of Cuneo). Her passion started in 3rd middle school, even if she affirms that she had never gotten her dream off officially. “I’ve found what I like and I’m doing it, I’ve never told ‘I want to become a stylist’!” she tells. Then, she studied to the Istituto Feller in Alba (Cuneo) and to the Secoli in Milan, collaborating with important brands. Today she has several retailers for her line, Ombradifoglia, while the head quarter is in Turin, in Via Catania 16. There I had the pleasure to meet Elena and make her some questions.

This time, it was a great chit chat, sat on comfy vintage armachairs and surrounded by a particular atmosphere, a little chaotic, but very relaxing and curious, with sewing machines (vintage too), spools, patterns, fabric cutting. “Sorry for the mess!” she continues repeating me. I answer she doesn’t worry about it, as I’m the same…then, it should be this way, it’s like to enter in her head.

Sometimes she has to help clients. In the menwhile, I look around, take some pics and observe her: she’s very available and “cuddles” her clients: she lets them try clothes (sometimes produced for them), gives advices, alternatives and listens carefully their desires. While they do the fitting, she prepares the other orders, cutting, sewing and ironing. For her, the word femininity doesn’t mean being provocative (as Rocco, isn’t it?? :D), but a more conceptual idea, with a soft lining. “I like a dress on pants, I like wide!” And what a wide!! She dressed a lady about 45/50 years old, not too tall and with a normal pretty body for that age (slim but with a little belly), with a pair of palazzo pants and a blouse-vest, close on breast and softer below. You think it’s a WRONG mix! This lady was gorgeous!!!!!

I’m curious, so I have to ask about her experience at Project Runway.
Amazing! I’ve grown up, learnt a lot, professionally and personally. Living closely with so many unknown people is a weird experience, but beautiful!

Her story begins, with memories and emotions now still here.
With the guys (Giorgia Fiore, Rocco Galluccio, Marco Taranto and Salvo Presti, Editor’s note) I’ve bounded so much. With Rocco we’ve also worked together. We really keep in touch and when possible we see each other! During the finale, in Milan, I get close with Giorgia. While Marco did his stuff her and I did a lot of thing together!

This should be a beautiful experience, but also very stressfull.
Sure! We hadn’t anything, phones, computers, magazines, … We couldn’t distract ourselves for a while, or read e-mails. We got a deadline and in 12 hours we had to do everything. 12 hours which practically became 6 for among confessionals, cameras, … Today, watching myself on tv, I realize that I’d never make some stuff in other situations.

The finale has been different. There you let come out your real being.
For the finale collection we had more time. We came back home, even for two weeks. We finally had the occasion to show who really we are.

I have to say that she succeed perfectly, with a fresh collection, which brang Sun, coloring Milan Fashion Week black&white catwalks.

You sad to not have won?
I’d be sad for not taking part to the finale, but I’m happy that Marco won. He deserves it, he’s young and he’s got a real talent. I have my boutique and my clients and I don’t want to abandon this project.

The most severe judge?
Eva Herzigova.

Alberta Ferretti?
The mom. We’ve kept in touch also after the show, she came to visit me, we were like her kids!

What do you take inspiration from?
From everything! A song, a movie, a pic…and obviously my clients’ desires!

She talks about them with affection, as friends (some of them, for real)…

When a client come to me for clothing, we start a path together. We see each other, we talk, we try, …and then we start a friendship relation. At the end you’re tired but it’s really satisfying. The client knows to have a unique piece, created only for her, for a special occasion, a wedding (Elena produces also clothing for ceremonies, Editor’s note) or anything else.

Time is short-running. Two clients arrive and for them 15 minutes aren’t enough. A last pic together (she’s very tall!!) and the final greetings.

It has been a beautiful day. I was a bit excited but I feel immediately confy. From the moment I entered in Elena Pignata’s atelier, it was like to enter in her head, a very interesting trip ;)
