Al suo servizio c’è la giovane Meg Lytton che nasconde un grande e pericoloso segreto: la ragazza è una strega e lo è nel periodo storico peggiore per esserlo. Il suo è un dono che cela a tutti tranne alla principessa che ne risulta affascinata.
Il libro, infatti, ci proietta direttamente dentro l’azione: Meg, la zia ed Elisabeth si trovano in un casolare abbandonato per fare un rito magico e scoprire se Elisabeth diventerà o meno la futura regina. La giovane principessa, infatti, non è spaventata dalla magia, anzi, ne è attratta e supporta la ragazza mantenendone il segreto. Le cose si complicano,però, quando a chiedere la mano di Meg è un certo Marcus Dent, di professione… cacciatore di streghe!
Come avrete capito, Witchstruck porta il lettore direttamente dentro l’azione, raccontata in prima persona da Meg, un personaggio forte ma allo stesso tempo dolce, decisa e accondiscendente. Durante la lettura conosceremo bene la ragazza, sono infatti presenti molti flashback che consentono di esplorare la sua infanzia e le situazioni che l’hanno condotta alla corte dei Tudor.
Witchstruck parte da una base di fiction storica e vi introduce elementi paranormali che rendono ulteriormente intriganti sia la storia che i personaggi. Il linguaggio è ricercato, ma di semplice comprensione anche per chi non è di madrelingua inglese. La storia ha un ritmo serrato e ci accompagna per mano in un viaggio intrigante, dove Meg non saprà più di chi fidarsi, si sentirà braccata e in pericolo, fintanto che incontrerà un giovane enigmatico che sta per diventare prete…

ENG - Today will be in American bookstores (and not only) the first volume of an historical fantasy trilogy, wich had a considerable success at home (Great Britain): we are in 1554, in full Tudor era and at the service of Princess Elizabeth there is Meg Lytton, a young witch who struggles to hide his gift, in the midst of dangers, plots and betrayals of the court.
We are in the Middle Ages, Princess Elizabeth was accused of treason because of her mother Anne Boleyn and exiled for this before in the Tower of London and then in Woodstock, awaiting the final judgment. At her service there is the young Meg Lytton, who hide a big and dangerous secret: the girl is a witch, and it is in the worse historical period to be it. This gift is hidden to everyone except the princess who is fascinated by it.
The book, in fact, propels us directly into the action: Meg, her aunt and Elisabeth are in an abandoned farmhouse to make a magic ritual and find out whether or not Elisabeth will become the future Queen. The young princess, in fact, is not frightened by magic, indeed, she is attracted and supports the girl keeping the secret. Things get complicated, however, when a boy is about to ask for the hand of Meg, a certain Marcus Dent, a professional … witch hunter!
As you can see, Witchstruck brings the reader directly into the action and from Meg POV, a strong character but at the same time sweet, firm and condescending. While reading, we will know better the girl because there will be many flashbacks that allow us to explore her childhood and situations which led her to the Tudor’s court.
Witchstruck starts from a base of historical fiction with paranormal elements to make the story more intriguing. The language is sophisticated, yet easy to understand even for those who are not native English speakers. The story has a fast pace and takes us by the hand in an intriguing journey, where Meg will no longer know who to trust, feel hunted and in danger, as long as she meet an enigmatic young man who is about to become a priest …

Meg Lytton ha sempre saputo che di essere diversa, di avere un dono oscuro e potente. Ma nel 1554 in Inghilterra, in servizio presso Woodstock Palace alla corte dei Tudor al seguito della principessa Elisabetta, non è mai stato più pericoloso praticare la stregoneria. Meg sa che deve custodire il suo segreto con attenzione dai molti occhi sospettosi che sorvegliano la principessa e le sue compagne. Una mossa sbagliata potrebbe significare perdere la sua vita, e quella di Elisabetta, legittima erede al trono inglese.
Con il cacciatore di streghe Marcus Dent determinato ad avere la mano di Meg, e la propria famiglia che cospira contro la regina inglese, non c’è una sola persona di cui Meg possa fidarsi. Victoria Lamb è cresciuta nella tranquilla Isola di Man, beneficiando di una vasta biblioteca di libri e una famiglia di scrittori da cui prendere ispirazione. Ora vive in un trecentesca vecchia casa colonica a Bodmin Moor, ai margini della Cornovaglia, dove si incammina ogni giorno e scrive in uno studio che si affacciano nella brughiera. Scrive anche poesie con lo pseudonimo di Jane Holland. Sua madre è stata l’ultima grande romanziera romantica Charlotte Lamb.
