Vestire rètro significa prendere spunto dagli stili dei decenni precedenti, ma non necessariamente questo presuppone l'uso di capi vintage. Vista la popolarità di questo stile, in continuo aumento, sta diventando sempre più facile trovare abiti moderni in stile retrò. Perciò, potete tranquillamente decidere se indossare abiti vintage, vestiti nuovi o una combinazione di entrambi. Ma è opportuno tenere presenti alcune informazioni.

Per alcune persone, i termini vintage e retrò hanno lo stesso significato, ma non è così. Ricordatevi di controllare le acconciature e gli stili di trucco popolari dell' epoca a cui volete riferirvi. Ad esempio, negli anni 50 rossetto rosso ed eyeliner erano i migliori amici delle donne, mentre la moda hippie era molto naturale, le donne andavano spesso in giro senza trucco ed preferivano gioielli in colori naturali.
Imparate a riconoscere i diversi modelli e stili che contraddistinguono i vari look retrò e il tipo di accessori che vi si abbinavano.
Prima di buttarvi nello stile rètro, pensate a quello che potrebbe stare meglio su di voi. Se siete formose, difficilmente starete bene con un look alla Twiggy, così come un look da pin up anni 50 non valorizzerebbe di certo un fisico androgino.
Non indossate mai uno stile retrò in cui non vi sentite a vostro agio, anche se va di moda. Se vi sentite stupide con una gonna a ruota o con un paio di pantaloni a zampa d'elefante, non solo non potrete godervi il vostro look, ma con ogno probabilità apparirete ridicole anche agli occhi degli altri.
