Siamo alle solite

Nell’accingermi ad analizzare un articolo di Marco Tosatti («Adozioni omo, studio Usa» – La Stampa, 12.6.2010) devo confessare con un certo imbarazzo che vi giungo grazie a un rilancio di Pontifex.Roma, che ne riporta integralmente il testo e ringrazia il vaticanista per l’autorizzazione alla pubblicazione. Il titolo che sceglie Pontifex.Roma è «Adozioni omosessuali. Una nuova estensiva ricerca in Usa le condanna. Falsati gli studi precedenti, dicono gli esperti», che sintetizza in modo abbastanza fedele il sommario che Tosatti mette in apertura al suo articolo: «Un ampio nuovo studio sui bambini allevati da coppie dello stesso sesso ha messo in luce un disegno di risultati negativi in maniera significativa, che pongono serie questioni su lavori precedenti che sostenevano che le coppie omosessuali avevano risultati educativi simili a quelle eterosessuali». In via preliminare, dunque, è da evitare ogni rilievo al «blog cattolico non secolarizzato» tristemente noto per la sua militante omofobia: il problema sta tutto nell’articolo di Tosatti, che è un pessimo esempio di giornalismo.«Un ampio nuovo studio sui bambini allevati da coppie dello stesso sesso – scrive Tosatti – ha messo in luce un disegno di risultati negativi in maniera significativa, che pongono serie questioni su lavori precedenti che sostenevano che le coppie omosessuali avevano risultati educativi simili a quelle eterosessuali». Prosa legnosa, da traduttore inglese-italiano di Google, com’è possibile verificare andando a recuperare l’articolo di Mark Regnerus, cui si fa riferimento, su Social Science Research. Ma il problema non è la prosa. Il problema è se lo studio di Regnerus «condanni» l’«adozione omosessuale» (Pontifex.Roma) o se in essa possa individuarsi causa specifica di un «disegno di risultati negativi» (Tosatti). Non resta che risalire alla fonte.Pacifica presa d’atto che «same-sex couples have and will continue to raise children» e che «american courts are finding arguments against gay marriage decreasingly persuasive», con scrupolosa avvertenza che «this study is intended to neither undermine nor affirm any legal rights concerning such». Questa sarebbe la «condanna» dell’«adozione omosessuale»? Avevamo preliminarmente accantonato il titolista di Pontifex.Roma, adesso possiamo definitivamente mandarlo a cagare. Ma veniamo al «disegno di risultati negativi» che troverebbero specifica causa nell’«adozione omosessuale».«Do children need a married mother and father to turn out well as adults?», si chiede Regnerus. «No, if we observe the many anecdotal accounts with which all Americans are familiar. Moreover – precisa – there are many cases in the New Family Structures Study where respondents have proven resilient and prevailed as adults in spite of numerous transitions, be they death, divorce, additional or diverse romantic partners, or remarriage. But the New Family Structures Study also clearly reveals that children appear most apt to succeed well as adults — on multiple counts and across a variety of domains — when they spend their entire childhood with their married mother and father, and especially when the parents remain married to the present day». «Disegno» pressoché sovrapponibile, dunque, a quello di ogni altra serie di «risultati negativi» in ambito familiare, quand’anche la coppia sia eterosessuale.Tosatti, allora, che ha letto? Ha letto l’abstract, distrattamente per giunta. Nel corpo del testo, per esempio, avrebbe trovato che «the New Family Structures Study is not a longitudinal study, and therefore cannot attempt to broach questions of causation». Soprattutto avrebbe trovato che «although the New Family Structures Study offers strong support for the notion that there are significant differences among young adults that correspond closely to the parental behavior, family structures, and household experiences during their youth, I have not and will not speculate here on causality, in part because the data are not optimally designed to do so, and because the causal reckoning for so many different types of outcomes is well beyond what an overview manuscript like this one could ever purport to accomplish». Non è tutto, perché Regnerus tiene a precisare: «I am thus not suggesting that growing up with a lesbian mother or gay father causes suboptimal outcomes because of the sexual orientation or sexual behavior of the parent; rather, my point is more modest: the groups display numerous, notable distinctions, especially when compared with young adults whose biological mother and father remain married».Pretendere che Tosatti leggesse tutto l’articolo di Regnerus? Macché, gli sembrava di aver trovato una prova scientifica di ciò che suggerisce la fede.
