soluzione befana dell'ultimo momento - last minute befana solution

nella campania viene la befana la notte prima dell'epifania e lascia dolcetti e regalini ai bimbi. oramai tutti comprano quelle calze preconfezionate dal supermercato. per noi usiamo le calze di natale che ho fatto io (che si vedono qui e qui. negli stati uniti è babbo natale che riempie le calze e l'epifania non si festeggia proprio.). ma non mi va di cucire una calza nuova di tessuto ogni anno per i cugini, la nonna e altri amici giovani che vediamo in quel periodo. di solito recupero calze che altri regalano ai miei figli e le riempio con dolci fatti in casa. ma quando non ce le ho da recuperare, le cucio di carta.
in campania, the region of italy where we live, a witch called la befana comes the night before epiphany and leaves candy and gifts for kids. these days everyone just buys those prepackaged stockings in the supermarket. within our own family we use the christmas stockings that i made (which you can see here and here. in the united states it's santa claus who fills up stockings and epiphany isn't celebrated at all.). but i don't feel like sewing a new fabric stocking every year for cousins, grandmother and other young friends who we see in these few days. usually i just reuse stockings that others have given my kids and i fill them up with homemade sweets. but when i don't have any stockings to reuse, i sew them out of paper.

la prima volta l'ho fatto tre anni fa dopo aver visto l'idea da alessia scrap & craft. questo anno andavo proprio di super fretta (causa epidemia influenza in famiglia, saggio di nuoto della bimba, ecc.) e non sono riuscita a fare tutti i dolci che volevo. in più, ho avuto il tempo per fare le calze proprio la mattina dell'epifania in fretta e in furia. recupero sempre la carta in cui viene avvolto il nostro pane per usarla invece dello scottex quando friggiamo in casa. quindi ho scelto i tre foglioni di carta in stato migliore, ho disegnato la forma di una calza veloce veloce, e ci ho cucito sopra con la macchina da cucire.
i did this the first time three years ago after seeing the idea on alessia scrap & craft. this year i was super rushed (due to flu pandemic in extended family, my daughter's swim performance, etc.) and i wasn't able to make all the sweets i'd wanted. then i was only able to make the stockings the actual morning of epiphany, rushing as much as i could. i always save the paper that our bread comes wrapped in to use it instead of paper towels when we fry foods. so i picked out the three sheets of paper that were in the best condition, i quickly drew the shape of a stocking on each, and then machine sewed the paper.

ho messo i bimbi a tavola con i pennarelli e le tre calze e li ho detto di riempirle di disegni, mentre io incartavo i dolci che ero riuscita a fare il giorno precedente. questo anno ho deciso di fare i biscotti a baretta per non perdere il tempo di fare tanti biscottini e infornarli in più volte. quindi gli riceventi hanno avuto le barette al limone....
i plopped the kids at the table with markers and the three stockings and told them to draw on them, while i wrapped up the desserts that i'd managed to bake the day before. this year i decided to make bar cookies so as not to waste time making bunches of cookies and dealing with putting things in and out of the oven all day. so the recipients got lemon bars...

mia figlia ha disegnato alcuni personaggi del film yellow submarine dalla memoria (ve l'ho già raccontanto quanto le piace quel film!) per il cugino ed era così contenta dal risultato che ci ha pure scattato delle foto con la sua macchina fotografica personale!

my daughter drew some characters from the movie yellow submarine from memory (i already told you how much she loves that movie!) for her cousin and was so happy with how they came out that she even took pictures of them with her own camera!

e con la befana, si chiudono le feste e oggi tutti di nuovo a scuola!! buon ripreso della vita normale a tutti voi!
