Non mi capita di frequente di essere colpita da fotografi di ritratto: spesso trovo le immagini stereotipate, le pose viste e riviste, c’è sempre il rischio del “Ehhh ma è già stato fatto tutto!”.
Per queste fotografie di James LaBounty ho dovuto fare un’eccezione: a ogni immagine ho sentito il bisogno di vedere la successiva.

Not frequently I’m affected by portrait photographers: I often find stereotypical images, the poses are seen over and over again, there is always the risk to say “Ehhh, it has already been done!”.
For these photographs of James LaBounty I had to make an exception: for every picture I felt the need to see the next one.

Ciascun ritratto è un’opera finita, che “parla” da sè, decontestualizzata ma piena di umanità, assolutamente incapace di essere banale.
Mi piace che sia il soggetto sia perfettamente nitido e tutto il resto sfuocato: concentra la visione su chi è in primo piano, distanziandolo dallo sfondo. E mi piacciono anche le didascalie con piccole storie dello scatto.
In un’espressione: fotografie “semplici e ad effetto”. Ce ne fossero!

Each portrait is a finished work that “speaks” for itself, out of context but full of humanity, absolutely incapable of being prosaic.
I love the subject is perfectly in focus and everything else out of focus: it concentrates the vision on who is in the foreground, distancing from the background. And I like the captions also with the little stories of shooting.
In an expression: photographs “simple and with effect”. There were many of them!
